Ha. Last year I posted that I'd finally found a jellied cranberry recipe worth keeping. Guess who didn't link to it or put it in her recipe book? That's right, that'd be me. Last night I made up the chunky cranberries from my usual recipe; tonight will be the jellied cranberries from the Food in Jars recipe. Tomorrow night will be pie crust, and then Thursday morning will be the succotash and lots of baking.

I've started up my sourdough starter again, which will be ready to use in a couple days. Wonderful Husband wanted a more historic/official starter, though, so when we found a packet of dried San Francisco starter at Surfas for a little over $5, we got that too. Though the instructions for starting it are just, gah! Must be kept between 80-90 degrees for X hours, etc. The house isn't reaching those temperatures currently, so I'm thinking of getting the foam cooler from the garage, putting that on the counter, and using either hot water or hot/cold packs to get the official starter started. I guess it needs a lot more babying than my wild-yeast one!

Also, I had listed out everything else I needed for my part of Thanksgiving, and got most of it at the Saturday farmer's market. There I ran into Shannon from the mommy/baby group I've been attending. I have a suspicion that the universe may be telling me to make friends. Not a hardship!

And, finally, today I did something I've been pondering for a few weeks now, and called Mother's Milk Bank in San Jose to start the process of becoming a milk donor. While I'm not a super-lactator like some nursing mothers (seriously, did you know that the Guinness Book of Records has a category for "most human milk donated"?), on one pumping a day I'm averaging about four ounces over and beyond what Squiddle needs. And if that can go to a milk bank, to be pasteurized and then sent on to preemies and sick infants who need it, that makes me feel good. God knows I'm not too good at charity; this, at least, is something I can do. There was about a five-minute interview over the phone, mostly about the same stuff that you fill out on the form when you donate blood. I'm being sent an information packet, along with forms for my doctor and Squiddle's, and there will be a blood test to make sure I've not got any diseases that would be transmissable through the milk. News to me if I do, so....

Since getting over the Death Flu I got in Vegas, I've had a lingering problem of nose-stuffed-up-for-half the day.

(Please note I was in Vegas over a month ago. I still need to post pics.)

This weekend at the local farmer's market, I stopped by one of the artisan food booths, Lucky Habanero Salsa. I purchased two 16-ounce containers, one of Original Hot, and one of Dragon Lips.

Both flavors reams out my sinuses within a dozen chips. ^_^ And I can pronounce all the ingredients~!

I love practical holistics.

Just got back from the gym. It was brilliant. There were only three other people there.

So, today I had my dance class this morning. I've got the grapevine step down, but doing the Arabic step while moving my hands at a much slower rate is defeating me. Must practice. Afterwards, I went to the farmer's market. The Asian vegetables people are still sadly missing, but the mushroom guy was there! Bought a bag of shiitakes to go in tomorrow's quiche. ^_^ Wonderful Husband and I finally went to the $2 theater to see Captain America, which was actually quite good. I've been kind of hesitating on it and Thor because Iron Man 2 left me with a, mm, shall we say less than stellar taste in my mouth, a large part of which is due to wow, Pepper suddenly became such a weak character. I can't exactly pinpoint when I started turning into such a feminist regarding the television and film depictions of women, but somewhere along the way I have. But I liked the relatively strong female lead in this and thought the film overall stood up quite well. I kind of want Peggy to still be alive (though in her 90s) and for her and Steve to get in that dance somehow, but I doubt it's going to happen.

Poking at words until I wind down from endorphin high, then going to bed.

In our swing dance class, every now and again I hit a certain stride and have to blink, realizing that Wonderful Husband and I are the most advanced dancers in the class. Which, I admit, doesn't mean much... we're not that good yet. But we've been at this for several years now, so sooner or later most of it sinks in.

Have now finished season two of Avatar. Wonderful Husband and I are pondering whether or not to play catch-up via DVDs or downloads, or just wait until the whole third season is available to purchase. In the meantime, we have the second season of The Muppet Show to go through. ^_^

Transformers: Animated this morning was... amusing. I find the constant visual references to G1 (this episode: Daniel, and Prime's trailer) great fun, and continue to like the writing. I think, however, that the writers don't like Daniel much. :)

Went to Farmer's Market a few hours earlier than usual, and think I shall continue the habit. Much better parking and much less crowded earlier in the day.

Waiting for color printout of costume set I'm doing with [livejournal.com profile] racerxmachina and [livejournal.com profile] aelfsciene so that I can hit up the fabric district and buy mass quantities.... *knock on wood*

Hah.

Went to Farmers' Market, returned with lots of fruit and veg. And kettle korn for the Wonderful Husband, but he /will/ be helping me eat the fruit and veg as well.

Then went out into the back yard. With his help, ripped out five major and two minor tomato bushes, four jalepeno bushes, majorly trimmed back three roses, and weeded the potted plants. There were rather a lot of trips made to the dumpster. And tomorrow the rosebushes (and maybe the ferns and two hydrangeas) will make their way over to my parents' to go into the soil there. Because one can never have too many roses, given enough yardspace. Which this place does not have, so maybe just herbs in the garden? I'm good with herbs.

But for now my hands are clean and dry and scratched and I'm going to the bookstore because I deserve it, g*demmit.
