Typical Saturday
Jun. 11th, 2011 10:55 pmOne more week of bellydance class before it goes on hiatus for a month or so. :(
Did two estate sales this morning; at one I got nothing more than a couple jars, at the other I walked away with a few books and lots of nice vintage linens, including a linen tablecloth and ten matching napkins for my mother for $3. I was shocked at how underpriced they all were! But then I guess no one showed interest in them on the first day, and I did, so my win. ^_^
After the estate sales, I went to downtown Orange, which is always nice. There are all of these old houses there, one after another after another, and they're all so gorgeously kept. The oldest house in my neighborhood, in contrast, just down the street and over on Romneya, is shockingly dilapidated. Every time either my mother or myself goes past it, we sigh wistfully and dream of what we could do with it. We like old things; they have character.
The reason I was in Orange was because I had read a blurb in the LA Times Thursday food section about four weeks back that there was a new farmer's market there on Saturday mornings. It had mentioned "near the Circle," which is one of the few roundabouts in Orange County, and the hub of the historical district there and rather a LOT of antique shops. So I went there and slowly parsed my way to the farmer's market by following signs. And now I know where it is, so I shan't have to hunt and peck down the streets next time! It's small at this point (closer to one dozen booths than two), but it's got a good vibe and I liked what the booths there were offering. I got oranges and apricots and asparagus and spinach and cilantro and corn! It's about half the distance from me as the next closest weekend farmer's market (Irvine). A lot of the cities here tend to have their farmer's markets on weekdays during work hours. Great if you're a homemaker, but I'm not. So I'm happy to find one closer and more convenient.
And then I came home and didn't get nearly enough done, either outside or in, so I'll be paying for it tomorrow and trying to get lots of chores done. Part of this may be laid at the feet of going to see X-Men: First Class, which was good, though Wonderful Husband and I whispered a bit of snarky commentary to each other. It also doesn't fit perfectly into the universe established by the first two films, but nothing's perfect. (I try to forget that 3 and Wolverine existed.) Both of us especially actively disliked Beast's makeup compared to the second movie. Oh, and don't stay after the credits; there is no bonus snippet. Still, if they make more films to follow up this one I'll probably see them. We got mostly sucky trailers, though. The only ones that actually interested us were Green Lantern and Rise of the Planet of the Apes, though I at least am unlikely to watch the latter. Wonderful Husband, OTOH.... Oh, and even though I don't want to see it, I like that the trailer for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is so different from every other trailer out there. Are there awards given for movie trailers? There must be. I hope it gets one, if so. And the lobby standee for Dark of the Moon was possibly the best standee I've ever seen. Awesome. (Which reminds me, Glenn Morshower was in X-Men. And will apparently be in DotM, going by his IMDB page. Three for three!)

The trailer for Rise otPotA cracked me up. The Chimps of NIMH!!! ::rolls around::
YES!!! Dragon Tattoo trailer v fascinatingly different! Wonderful!!
Ahahaha I thought that was Morshower! XD And wasn't good old Michael Ironsides a military guy too? XD Man, I wasn't sure that was Kevin Bacon for a while, v different role for him than I've seen. I'm betting he had fun... :D
My SIL put my name on the list at our local movie theater to get the DotM standee when they're done with it. I don't know if they lottery or just give it to the first person on the list if none of the staff want it. It's too big for my bedroom, but I could tack it to the living room ceiling!
