Back at 100%! Hooray!

The set of books I took in for the gift exchange last night were moderately popular. In our class of nineteen, they got "stolen" twice. The first steal I wasn't surprised by, my "birthday twin" (tho she's several years older than me) Pat, who writes sci-fi. But the second steal was by Eleanor, who writes romances. And that did surprise me.

Today, though, my only set goal was doing a round of some of the local thrift stores to get Squiddle some dressy togs for Saturday, which is when we're booked in for our annual family photo. We succeeded at that, then Skyped my inlaws for a bit, then went out in the backyard for a session on the swingset. And after Squiddle had enough of the swings, while he played about, I fetched out the loppers. I'd earlier seen the city trimming our trees from the park side, and since I thus had to put a few branches into the yard waste bin anyway, I figured why not go for broke, and started tackling the suckers and low-hanging branches. I am about two-thirds done, but need Wonderful Husband to come home and help me squnch down the stuff already in the bin so I can fit the rest in.

And now, while Squiddle's napping, I get to tackle tidying and formulate a strategy for the next week's cooking and cleaning. Did I mention I'm hosting the family Thanksgiving this year? At least six adults plus Squiddle, possibly up to ten adults. One of the maybes being a vegetarian. Anyone have any favorite vegetarian Thanksgiving dishes you can give me a heads-up on?

Body feels better than yesterday, head feels worse.

Stuffed all of yesterday's weeding efforts into the yard waste bin, then lopped off all the suckers from the 40-ish trees lining our backyard, as well as the branches dipping down into walking height, and the ones blocking light from the windows on the north of the house. The yard waste bin is now full, so unless I borrow the neighbor's bin (which I might do; they have like no yard so never use it), I'm not pruning the rosebushes today after all. :/ I've also swept half the house and started the week's laundry.

Time for a sit-down break, which will probably consist of sun tea, painkillers, and more going through my backlog of edits on Queen's Choice. I've been powering my way through twenty pages a day, and it feels good. Both in the getting it done and clearing space on my desk sense, but also in the continual tweaking of the story for a smoother read. My word count isn't dropping much (currently at 118,124 words), so I'm also trying to identify subplots and characters I can cut if needed. 120K words is kind of the absolute upper limit for this genre, with 100K a safer goal. I think I've got one set of threads I could cut, if I can finagle the words to still make sense, but I'll need to be careful if I do so, because it's entwined with characters I cannot cut.

Hah.

Went to Farmers' Market, returned with lots of fruit and veg. And kettle korn for the Wonderful Husband, but he /will/ be helping me eat the fruit and veg as well.

Then went out into the back yard. With his help, ripped out five major and two minor tomato bushes, four jalepeno bushes, majorly trimmed back three roses, and weeded the potted plants. There were rather a lot of trips made to the dumpster. And tomorrow the rosebushes (and maybe the ferns and two hydrangeas) will make their way over to my parents' to go into the soil there. Because one can never have too many roses, given enough yardspace. Which this place does not have, so maybe just herbs in the garden? I'm good with herbs.

But for now my hands are clean and dry and scratched and I'm going to the bookstore because I deserve it, g*demmit.
