I restarted belly dance class this morning, after something like eight months away. Where did all my flexibility go?

Wonderful Husband and I went to see The Hobbit part 2. Our reaction was best summed up by Wonderful Husband: "For Tolkein fanfiction, that was pretty good." Because, really, about 80% of the movie wasn't from the book. It even had a redheaded Mary Sue!

And, I may be only four and a half months into this gig, but I'm remaining sure that being a parent is part of what I was meant to do. The Squiddle is starting to vocalize actual sounds now that will lead eventually to speech, and they're just the sweetest little things. This week he's been working on "boo" and "bwoo" and trying to do raspberries. Of course, he's also having "oh god, how did you even manage to poop that way??" moments of self-expression, as well as defending his superhero sidekick title of The Spit-Up Kid. But it remains hilarious when he pulls his pacifier out of his mouth, reinserts it, pulls it out again, then spends the next several minutes trying futilely to shove it back in again, hitting just about every spot on his face but his mouth.

Dance class was fun. Not. Mara's iPod died after our warm-up song. Which made practicing our dance routine a wee bit difficult. :/

The heater cabinet door, back bedroom door, back bedroom closet, and laundry room door have all now been given base coats. Tomorrow, and Monday since I get it as a holiday, all of them get enamel finishing coats (satin finish, for most of the closet) as do the master bedroom and shower room doors. Hopefully Wonderful Husband's weekend work project thing will in fact finish tonight (at 3am, grr) so that we can split the work of all that painting.

I probably have dried paint in my hair. I certainly have it on my elbow. Too tired to care. Going to bed now.

Last dance class for the session today; it starts up again next month. So Wonderful Husband went with me and I didn't do too badly at the class's choreographed dance. (For reference, we all knew the dance so well that Mara, the instructor, had to stop and pull out the instructions because she couldn't remember how the second half went either. ^_^;; We're usually much better than that.)

Ran errands, then went to the Orange County Gem Show, which was interesting. I will likely go again next year. My purchases were fairly modest this time, though. Mainly white pearls for one of those looooong 1920s necklaces, a silicon mat for future gluing of things, and two pendants, one of which is a blister pearl that Wonderful Husband thinks is horribly ugly, but which I think is neat and interesting. Our mileage varies. :) There were many things that I thought were pretty and interesting, but since I didn't have a specific purpose for them, I let them be. We'll see where I am the next time it comes around.

Just got back from the gym. It was brilliant. There were only three other people there.

So, today I had my dance class this morning. I've got the grapevine step down, but doing the Arabic step while moving my hands at a much slower rate is defeating me. Must practice. Afterwards, I went to the farmer's market. The Asian vegetables people are still sadly missing, but the mushroom guy was there! Bought a bag of shiitakes to go in tomorrow's quiche. ^_^ Wonderful Husband and I finally went to the $2 theater to see Captain America, which was actually quite good. I've been kind of hesitating on it and Thor because Iron Man 2 left me with a, mm, shall we say less than stellar taste in my mouth, a large part of which is due to wow, Pepper suddenly became such a weak character. I can't exactly pinpoint when I started turning into such a feminist regarding the television and film depictions of women, but somewhere along the way I have. But I liked the relatively strong female lead in this and thought the film overall stood up quite well. I kind of want Peggy to still be alive (though in her 90s) and for her and Steve to get in that dance somehow, but I doubt it's going to happen.

Poking at words until I wind down from endorphin high, then going to bed.

Had my final belly dance class of the session this morning. Wonderful Husband got up at work-o'clock-a.m. on a weekend to come watch! He thinks I'm good. I think he's biased. In any case, I plan to continue with the beginner-level class again come January. I'm not comfortable enough yet to consider moving up to intermediate.

Tidied up cabinets, creating enough room that all the home-canned goods on the counter could be put away. Delivered sourdough bread and a newish hummingbird feeder to my mother; estate sale'd and generally gallivanted with her. Returned home with a quart and a pint of salsa in exchange for the bread, and British tea and sweets for Wonderful Husband purchased at the fish'n'chips shop where Mom and I had lunch.

Canned shredded summer squash, bell peppers, jalepenos, and onions into Hot Zucchini Relish. Unfortunately what I had on hand were green squash and peppers, so it cooked to that particular shade I shall refer to as "boiled vegetable" rather than the lovely red-and-gold of the picture. Still, the proof is in the pudding, as they say... I shall wait and see how it tastes. Sadly, it just filled six pint jars so I had none left over for sampling. Culinary discovery: using the Cuisinart to shred onions still makes me tear up.

Think I shall use the rest of the squash (and onions, and peppers) in spicy garden pickles, which mellow into a dead ringer taste-wise for Branston Pickle. I also need to ponder on what to do with more apples, as I have failed to find the liquid pectin I would need to make Honey Lemon Apple Jam....

Think I've figured out why I keep thinking I'm hungry. Did prep work for crock-potting French herb chicken this morning, which included smashing a bulb of garlic and peeling it. Even after washing my hands, the aroma still clings faintly to 'em. ^_^ And, hey, dinner will be ready, all the dishes are already washed and put away, save for the rice cooker, the bowl of which I forgot to soak overnight so it's soaking now. All I have to do is wash it, measure a couple cups of brown rice in, and click that at 6:45 and dinner will be ready at 7:30. ^_^ If I'm good I'll mash up the browning bananas and make 'nana bread and muffins too.

Last night my parents had my dad's aunt and uncle over for dinner. It was kind of amusing in that, as Wonderful Husband and I rent from my parents, they showed up at our place first. We're about two miles away from my parents' home, and they still had that as the address. ^_^ So I drew them a map and they got there okay. Wonderful Husband and I, meanwhile, had our hurried curry dinner and went to our dance class before heading over to my parents' for dessert and socializing afterward. Dance class was... deserted. There were the two of us and one woman who comes singly. It was low-key and rather nice. ^_^ Practically a private lesson, but enough not so that it wasn't uncomfortable.

Brought in the remaining Halloween candy today and dumped it in the communal candy drawer. Was amused to hear my coworkers exclaim over it. Maybe they don't have trick'r'treaters in their neighborhoods?
