Moebius 32 summary
Nov. 8th, 2006 10:59 pmWent to my local Kinokuniya after work to order three books. It took about half an hour. ^_^;; Not that I can really blame the nice counter ladies as two of the books were the Princess Tutu anime guides, which are a bit... obscure, shall we say? Then came home and took care of the dishes stacked up for washing, and fed the kittens (sister has resexed Stalk, BTW; she is female after all), had dinner, and cuddled kittens while checking e-mail. /Then/ started translating. And my grand total for the evening? The U:M 32 summary and transcribing the last three lines into the 31 script. Not /translating/ them, mind, /transcribing/ them. So I know what I'm doing tomorrow night before dance class. ^_^;; sandpanther tells me I'll get faster at this with more practice. I hope so.

Anti-Monday charms

(1) having finished the rough translation of 30 last night whensandpanther helped me hammer out the last few lines,
(2) having gotten her translation feedback on 29 this morning, so I can work on smoothing that out tonight,
(3) curious kittens,
(4) napping on the sofa yesterday with /my/ cat,
(5) and the fact that I'm up, dressed, conscious, and playing on the computer with plenty of time before I have to go to work.

Okay, three lines left on episode 30. This contrasts nicely with episode 31, where I have twenty-two lines left, in eight of which the characters are either speaking softly enough or the background music is high enough that I can't make out what they're saying. So this is me spitting a curse or two out.
Hate this. T-minus twelve hours and I still have seven sentences to go. Three are Sakomizu's, four are Teppei's, and I know the gist but I'm not willing to roll the dice on the specifics. And I know this is because I'm not parsing what I'm hearing correctly.
Screw translating back episodes at this point, I'm having trouble /keeping up./

kitten progress
Nov. 2nd, 2006 11:43 pmThis evening I assisted my sister in the practice of the ancient, venerable martial art of kitten bathing. And changed their bedding and swept and swiffered the floor, so hopefully now they will be (and stay) much cleaner. I managed to get in contact with a fostering agency, but tokyokitty thinks some of her friends might want kittens, so I shall see if I can't find them homes privately. We worked on gentling the kittens some more. I think we've got Locke and Stalk just about tamed (although Stalk was the worst about getting a bath), but Beryl not quite yet... she's much more happy in a petting session with one of her brothers as opposed to alone. But she ended nice and placid while I worked with her this evening. Stalk got purring with almost no effort, though. The boys are /friendly/....
And I'm almost through with Moebius 30. Just eight more lines including two in the preview. And t-minus thirty-two hours until the torrent for 31 goes up... hope I can make it.

Oct. 30th, 2006 10:52 pmBlackie was rereleased at work today and boy did he ever scramble. I also picked up Ash's siblings and... they're more than twice as big as he was. Poor baby probably never stood a chance. They're currently dubbed Lock, Stalk, and Barrel, and I'll be taking them to see some of the people who do local kitten fostering in the morning. I should do it myself, but... I just can't. Ash is too raw in my heart right now. Chess is apparently a wild cat, not a domestic stray, but I'll be minding her for ten days nonetheless come Friday morning, which is the condition of the vet releasing her from the hospital that day.
I've finished the primary run-through of Moebius 30 and other than wanting to strangle Teppei (technobabble is NOT my translation cup of tea) it went fairly well. Between Wikipedia and an online Japanese-English dictionary, I even managed to nail the weaponry attacks. Because, y'know, "warhead" just wasn't in any of my Japanese vocab lessons in college. That said, the next time I catchsandpanther on IM, I'm so pestering her for help with certain terms and sentences. And Wonderful Husband has been sucked into our project and is learning how to do subtitling. Yay! Now we just need a project name....

Well, Ash versus the water, round one, went fairly well. He's much softer now, if not entirely de-flea'd yet. Stupid me didn't think he had fleas, so I got normal shampoo. But he's getting a few more baths over the next few days, until we get all of the fur crusts gone (to be fair, there's only one left, and that's on his chest) and the water is as clear when he's taken out as it was when he was put in. And he's spent this evening drowsing in my lap as I work on translations, so all seems to be good on that count.
Wore my dance heels to swing class tonight, which I think helped in some aspects and didn't in others. I suspect I'm going to end up laying down money for *real* dance shoes at some point, not just heels that I dedicated to the purpose.
The translation proceeds apace. All I have left to do is the OP and some baby Japanese in Konomi's scene. And then I get to toss the whole thing atsandpanther and have her tell me how off-base I am. Of course, at the same time I get to run through her translations of 21 and 22. Somehow I suspect there'll be far fewer accuracy problems in those, though. Still, all in all this is giving me a weird feeling that my B.A. in Japanese was perhaps not entirely a wasted endeavor.

Mirai needs a kitten
Oct. 23rd, 2006 09:37 pmI'm trying to remember if there are any songs in Cats about feline multiplication, and the closest I'm coming is in "Magical Mister Mestopholes" when he produces seven kittens right out of a hat. Because today I started with one kitty. Now there are two. Hopefully in the next few days there will be three or four. This magical multiplication comes about because today I discovered that apparently the feral cats next door to where I work had another litter 5-6 weeks ago. I saw at least three of the little buggers (all black) today and managed to snag one... now I just need to catch the rest, domesticate them, and find adoptive parents. My sister took pictures of the one I got.
