Hakama repaired and packed. Costumes picked out and packed. Clothing... not quite packed 'coz I'm waiting for the bra I want to take to finish drying. Desk at work cleared to the point where I'm going to have nothing to do tomorrow. Cookies baking. In short, I am ready. Mwah?

Just watched Princess Princess episode seven. The only episode of the series I consider "good" to this point (as in living up to the potential of the premise) has been five. Seven utterly destroyed that. It rocked. It /finally/ pulled out the stops and started with the stomach punches. This, of course, means that next episode it's probably going back to mediocre suckiness, but ah, the moment.

Unfortunately, I need to back up and do a minor edit to my hakama. Le'sigh. Well, that's what tomorrow's for....

Hah!

Got up early this morning and finished off [livejournal.com profile] roseembolism's hakama. They and his kimono have now been through the wash to remove things like chalk marks from construction and are currently in the dryer to remove any fluff they may've picked up during the making. So all that's left is [livejournal.com profile] racerxmachina's obi and Wonderful Husband and I are DONE.

Well, except for ironing and baking cookies and packing and cleaning the house so it doesn't look like a costuming disaster area before we leave for Fanime on Thursday night....

Finished the hand-sewing of seam finishes during three discs' worth of Card Captor Sakura. I was good and left the subs off. ^_^ And I got hit withthe last scene for the current "Tales from a Ramen Stall" story, so I'm going to have to get back to that at some point.

Somewhat relatedly, it being anime as well, I adore Saiunkoku Monogatari. It's easily the best show I'm watching this season. I just hit episode seven and another "aha! good thing I was paying attention in the first episode; there was a test!" moment. Plus two more moments toward the end that made me hit pause for each because I was laughing so hard.

An' it's an hour and a half past my bedtime, so I am so not setting the alarm for six in the morning, but hey, I've polished off two pieces today, gotten the last measurement I need, and bought enough interfacing to make RXM's obi this weekend. So now, dear companions, I collapse unconscious.

Well, have almost finished my kimono... half of the collar guard left, and the inner seams of the two sleeves, and that's it. Probably would have finished it today, but I took a couple hours to galivant through garden supply centers (four in total) with my mother this morning, which was fun, and a bit more time to work on my garden (begone, evil snails! *flings 'em over the fence*), not to mention putting in The Last Starfighter for background noise while sewing. But overall it's been a productive day, especially as Wonderful Husband spent it working out how to make hakama and succeeding! Yay because he is wonderful.

But for now me and my sun tea and the sewing are all going to bed because I can feel myself crashing.

Finished kimono #2 (Wonderful Husband's) yesterday. Got up this morning and inspecting the pieces for #3 (mine), discovered there were several small holes in about half the pieces. The collar it's okay for--I can just fold the edge they're closest to into the inside. But the overlaps and the collar guard? Had to recut them. Fortunately there was enough left over to do so, as this is a fabric I bought a few years ago that's no longer available.

Went shopping yesterday after work and finally found the present I've been looking for for my mother. Yay! Also stopped at a garden supply center and now have snow peas and stevia plants. I resisted on the roses, though! (Even though the Julie Newmar rose was lovely and Rainbow Sherbert had the most exquisite colors... and there were a couple striped ones I'd not seen before....) Someday, I am going to have a garden full of roses again.

Had hoped to finish kimono #2 today, but it was not to be. Have all of one sleeve's seams still to stitch down, as well as a little bit of the other left, and the collar guard to attach. Maybe I'll finish the one sleeve then whip-stitch the collar guard on next as a break from interminable hemming of raw edges. And Wonderful Husband is cutting out the last couple pieces for my kimono, so that will be next.

Today I've been hot and tired and achy and out of it for the most part. Almost fell asleep at work and ended up leaving dance class halfway through because I just couldn't handle it. Mwah. Hope tomorrow is better.

Got up an hour early this morning to keep sewing. All of the major seams on Wonderful Husband's kimono are now finished. All that remains to be done is (1) hand-sew the other edge of the collar on, (2) hand-sew the collar guard on, and (3) finish the interior of the sleeves. I may be able to finish this today. OTOH, I have dance class again tonight and a sinkful of dishes to wash, so maybe not. We'll see.

Kimono 1 (for [livejournal.com profile] racerxmachina): DONE. Beautiful stripey fabric that almost completely disguises the piecing I had to do to make it work. You'd think six yards of 45" wide fabric would be enough for one outfit for anyone, but nooooo... I am left with almost nothing in the way of scraps. I love this kimono, and think RXM does as well, because of how much inspiration it required, and how well it came out.

Kimono 2 (for Wonderful Husband): In-progress. Discovered that the fabric for it has a 5" repeat. Discovered this because there is a 5" tuck at the waist and when I ironed it flat, the leaves matched. Laughed aloud and called Wonderful Husband downstairs to look.

Went to swing dance class tonight, ironed out the chicken walk and learned another new move that we don't know the name for yet. Corned beef has been in the crockpot all day, and we just tossed veg (cabbage + carrots + corn) into a pot on the stove, so food should be ready soon. So for now I go sew on the other sleeve.

Hah. Got the collar on the kimono pattern working (hatred for the pattern book is currently at "dislike and resentment" level). And Wonderful Husband cut out his kimono for me to work on after I finish the collar and collar guard on this one. But first is his haircut and showers and bed....

There are some pretty good reasons I work ConOps at Fanime. Namely, my friends. At the moment, though, I'm feeling my annual Fanime depression setting in and am wondering just why, exactly, I do this every year. Of course, I can count off the reasons I'm feeling this way right now: three kimono, two half-finished kimono, two hakama, two obi, plus anything I want to get done on Fuu (because, y'know, I'm a cosplayer and having a new costume this season might be nice) or remaking Shinku (currently in pieces)... not to mention planning the freaking panel I was stupid enough to volunteer myself for because it seemed like a good idea at the time....

So, not a happy K-chan.

And none of it's going to go away.
