I have questionable taste in music. In fact, I have questionable taste in many things. My novel, for instance, is about a mermaid fairy demi-goddess princess with pretty clothing! I blame this, and my love for boybands, on the fact that a part of my brain obviously got stuck somewhere around twelve years old.
That said OMGWTFSQUEEEEEEE~!
New Kids on the Block. And Backstreet Boys. One stage, one concert. And it's going to be in my neck of the woods!!

Ticketses!
Oct. 18th, 2008 12:21 pmI has them, my preciousssss....
You see, I'd been muttering dark imprecations about the Backstreet Boys not doing any concerts anywhere near the state I live in on this tour. Then this week I get a heads-up from Ticketmaster that they've added a date at the Palladium up in Hollywood on November 23rd! I've never been there (though
iaurcalien has and says it's nice), but it's a 4000-person venue, which is quite intimate for a boyband concert, and the tickets were just under $50 each! So I waited and stalked until they went on sale at noon and in just over a month I'll be going to see BSB with her! Hooray for this being an excellent autumn for boybands concerts!
(Yes, I still need to post that review of NKOTB's concert, and yes, I am still sick, with my voice going in and out.)

Costume College and Boyband Fan(atics)
Aug. 8th, 2006 10:28 pmBack from Costume College. Enjoyed the heck out of it, learned a lot, already signed up for next year. More later, when I can reflect on what I've learned. Currently creativity is being focused, due to the onslaught of WorldCon sewing projects commencing. Today I have molded acorns and cut and fray-checked leaves.
Also got an e-mail today from someone I don't immediately recognize begging me for information about whether or not Howie Dorough of BSB is gay. Um. While I appreciate the maenedic franticity of fandom, how am I supposed to know? While still a fan, I'm out of the fandom. The only reason I knew about Lance Bass of *N Sync being gay was because the DJ mentioned it during my morning drive to work. And I've since read the article in People and concluded that *N Sync isn't reforming any time soon. Mainly from Lance's crack about "I should call Justin and tell him I'm gay" with the inference that he would hopefully be doing so before the issue hit the newsstands. Yeah, real group solidarity there. So, for the record, I don't know if anyone (aside from Lance) is gay. Or bisexual. A few of them I assume are somewhat straight, given the married-with-kids thing. And also for the record, I really don't care. The reason Lance being gay pleases me is not because he is, but because he seems to feel he's in a place where he can admit it not only to his family and friends but the world at large as well. I never thought I'd see a boy band member admitting publicly to homosexuality during the time frame when there was any chance of their career continuing. So what pleases me is not with whom anyone partners, but that they can accept it and that they hope others can as well.
My name is Kristin, and I'm both bisexual and married to a wonderful man. Thank you, and good evening.

BSB concert report
Aug. 27th, 2005 09:20 amThursday night: concert bliss. Good seats, good friends, and fun music. I like the "Never Gone" album much more now after hearing it performed live. Unlike last tour they also did some playing around with and rearranging their old hits. It was interesting, hearing the reinterpretations. Nick played guitar and Kevin played piano, which created happy places inside me. There was still some of the pyro and the lighting was godlike (and strobe! and lasers! whee!) and my ears were ringing until I fell asleep. But really, I think my main impression is that they were a more relaxed on stage than I've ever seen the Backstreet Boys. We were joking that this should be subtitled the "Thank God We Still Have A Career" tour. It was very minimal--no dancers, little choreography for the new material, and the costume changes mostly looked like they'd just raided their regular clothes. For the most part, in fact, I'm not sure they *needed* costume changes except for singing and dancing on a lit stage and it was easily 80+ when the concert let out at 11pm, well, the phrase "sweat soaking through their clothing" comes to mind. But honestly? Nick *went into the audience* for part of one song. And returned with his clothes untorn, his person unmolested, and his sanity presumably intact. A fan dressed up from one of their new videos (BSB have cosplayers ^^;) managed to get onto the stage, security grabbed him and was leading him off, Kevin caught them and brought him back on and let him jam with the group for a bit before seeing him sent back into the audience. If it wasn't a plant, that was cool. I don't think the volume of fangirls was much less than on the Black and Blue tour, but somehow everything seemed mellower. Like the audience and the group both have both grown up, somehow....
I am cutting my nails short at the moment. This is so that I won't be too tempted to use my claws on whatever idiotic teenage fangirl happens to be shrieking at the top of her lungs next to me. Or behind me. Or anywhere near my vicinity.
Going to a Backstreet concert tonight with
iaurcalien and
seshat. My best experience of these concerts is that they're much fun, except for the stupid shrieking fangirls. Really. Ask me about the crowd at the Joey McIntyre concert I went to a few years ago. Mellow, mature fangirls and I could actually make out all the words to the songs. Ahh, that was bliss.
