Hmm. Well, major costume plans for this year have been kind of derailed due to several factors, many of which are beyond any of our group's control. So... back to the drawing board? Need to rethink the year's plans. Started back in on Fuu again, though, fixing a line on the trim and repositioning one of the snap balls. Need to reposition it again about three-quarters of an inch inward, though. Also drafted the yin-yang symbol and pulled out some of the leftover white silk from my wedding dress (wedding dress fabric=good luck!) and some of the leftover black silk from Oruha and Sophia. Am debating how best to do the applique as I want two layers of the white to keep it bright.

Wonderful Husband is wonderful because, among many other things, he has the ability to find fabric that I have hidden even from myself, buried in the middle of other fabric. And to hold me and make me feel better when I'm crying myself to sleep.

In honor of it being Earth Day, I fiddled in the garden a bit, clearing out dead growth on my oregano, chocolate mint, and lemon balm plants and transplanting the latter two into bigger pots because mint family plants are always greedy for more space. I also put my two habenero plants in pots--habeneros produce lots and lots and lots of fruit, so I'm not worried about them being in pots. The tomatoes and other peppers I want in the ground, though.

Also (not in honor of Earth Day) have gotten caught up with the laundry, all the pots and pans and toasters and grills and whatnot are put away in the kitchen, and I cooked dinner last night (hamburgers and oven fries and green salad) and may do so again tonight, depending on how much sewing I can get done. Tomorrow afternoon I go to stuff packets for Costume College. And if I'm lucky, somewhere in this weekend I might be able to walk properly again, and may rent a movie and pop some corn to eat while watching it.

Yesterday: went through ring of wig sample colors and found one that will work for Matsuri's odd gray-brown hair. Also finished what I'd been reading, which was The Complete Calvin and Hobbes. And now I'm sad that there will never ever again be any new C&H for me to read, but on the other hand it will always be there for me to reread and draw inspiration from.

And now to work, and then after to dance class.

Friday night: seeing Cirque du Soleil for the first time, performing Quidam. Waaaaah....

Saturday: general laundry and dishes stuff, along with finishing up more floof to Kirari's petticoat.

Sunday: RenFaire for about 4 hours with husband and inlaws. I love knowing that every single stitch I have on was made by myself. Need to do a new bodice for next year, though.

Today: Getting a call from [livejournal.com profile] hoshikage, asking if we can move WorldCon costume plans up to AX, and only later going online and finding out why. Still panicking. Will have no social life for the next yay many months.

'Laters, y'all.

Apparently Wonderful Husband and I at some point sent in one of those cards for Newtype USA's monthly give-aways because yesterday in the mail arrived Bottle Fairy disc 1. I remember kind of being interested in it, but don't remember sending in the card for it. *shrug* Watched it this morning and it /is/ cute, though not saccharine sweet. I have vague thoughts of adding Chiriri to my cosplay list because hers is a simple costume (unbleached linen and/or cotton) and if I ever do a Chii/Freja cosplay, it extends uses for the wig.

Still working on cutting out Fuu. Right knee is a bit tworky at the moment, which is slowing me down, but I just need to cut the sleeves, then the orange, and I'm ready to start sewing both Fuu and Matsuri's tops together. Put on the first Fantasia DVD yesterday while cutting, and am going through the second right now, making Wonderful Husband (who has not seen Fantasia 2K) watch it. Some pieces are wonderful, some are merely okay. I think I agree with him--Disney should have to put out a Fantasia every year, even if it's only a half hour, to polish their skills and show what animation styles they're experimenting with.

Have cut out tunic pieces for Matsuri. And going to flatline the (probably acetate) brocade with linen. Have also cut out lining for Fuu's tunic. Now... to the gym! Then dinner, then cutting the fashion fabric for Fuu.

Yesterday was my mother's birthday. A few weeks ago, when the Texuba kimono show/sale was held in an antique emporium in Long Beach, I happened to spot an applepot piece that my mother didn't have in her set yet, and returned yesterday morning to purchase it for her. She seemed to like it. ^_^ Dad took her (and my sister and Wonderful Husband and I) out to dinner at the yacht club they belong to, which was very nice. Also jotted up to Anime Gamers in Santa Monica in search of Cosmode 11, which both [livejournal.com profile] racerxmachina and I are in, but they were sold out. (So was the Kinokuniya in Torrance.) Got two new-to-me Card Captor Sakura shitajiki, though, one of them an image I've been searching for for a long time.

Today I went to the fabric district with a high school friend who's into RenFaire costuming. It was her first time to the LA fabric district, and while she's on a more limited budget than I am (she's mostly a stay-home mommy with a part-time job, while both Wonderful Husband and I work full-time), she seemed to have a good time. Fortunately some of my usual temptations were closed (in fact, it seemed like half the fabric district was shut today!), but there were still many things flickering my "want!" light on. I resisted most of them, except for a silk/rayon blend for $2/yd and a cotton/linen blend for $1/yd... the latter of which is going to become a new hoopskirt or two. I got what I went for, which was fabric to make Kun-Kun, and fabric to make Matsuri--specifically two yards of white Chinese brocade in a non-dragony pattern, and forty yards of pink chiffon in five different colors. At that, I'm realizing I will probably need even more chiffon for the skirt! And then lunch in Little Tokyo (omuraisu! *heart*). I checked Kinokuniya for Cosmode 11, but they too were out. [livejournal.com profile] racerxmachina, I have the ISBN, so I'll just order two copies from the Costa Mesa Kino, if that's all right.

Then I came home and finally cut into my handkerchief weight linen for the rew RenFaire chemise I've been promising myself. And I'm doing it oh-so-neatly, with drawn threads to cut on the straight of grain, t-tunic layout with shoulder seam gussets, silk thread... and then there's the redwork I finally got around to finishing last week for the collar and cuffs.... I'm enjoying this more than I should be, even if I'm drawing my line in the sand for strictest historical accuracy: I'm sewing the main seams by machine, though I will be doing most of the seam finishes by hand 'coz it's easier to make them clean that way.

While I was cutting pieces out, my sister's friend saw what I was doing and asked how much I'd charge her to make one for her. Um. ^_^;; $20 for fabric + something for labor...?
