We came to Britain with three luggages and are leaving with four. But that's okay; my inlaws frequently do the same thing on their trips to America, so we trade luggages back and forth across the Atlantic. Also okay because we're flying Premium Economy this time, so we're within our luggage allowance.

Less okay is getting up at 5:30am tomorrow because Virgin Airlines cancelled our nice, leisurely afternoon departure flight, and slotted us onto their morning departure one. Sigh. Que sera sera.

I'm feeling a bit smug because I got the first three luggages to all weigh exactly the same (48.6 pounds) almost by accident. No idea on the last luggage yet, because it will need to include things like our pyjamas and bathrobes.

We've had a lovely time over here on our long holiday, spending time with family and friends. Going back to our daily lives is going to be a change, and we're going to miss everyone we visit and hang out with over here. There are only two things I'd change about this vacation. One is to somehow magically make Squiddle happier about sleeping in a playpen when needs must. And the other is to have experienced a little bit of snow. We had freezing temperatures, and we had precipitation. We just never had them at the same time. Alas. Perhaps next time....

Or, who knows? Maybe it'll snow in Los Angeles again. ^_^

Yesterday was sucky in multiple ways. Wonderful Husband's grandmother passed on Tuesday night, not unexpectedly, and then we found out that a friend we (okay, he; I still can't attend) were looking forward to seeing at ComicCon this weekend had passed on a few months ago, just before Fanime. (Some of you may know who I am talking about.) Apparently her passing was all over Facebook. Unfortunately, we don't do Facebook, and no one had bothered to tell us. So we each spent part of yesterday crying.

In the evening, though, we did go with our prearranged plans and finally saw Iron Man 3 in a cheapie theater. As advertised, it was better than 2 though not quite as good as 1. And we enjoyed the post-credits scene... particularly once we worked out who Tony was talking to. *coughchokesnickerchortle*

Most miffed at the weather people who said the heat would break on Monday. It's Wednesday, and the temperature hasn't gone down any at all.

Spent part of this evening working on the next chapter of Deus Ex Machina. It's about a third done. Got in some musings about alternate universes, about the best-laid plans of mice and men, and one scene of combat teleportation training. I always find action scenes hard to write, so I'll probably need to edit it a few times before it's fit for reading.

Also got a call from an old friend who we've not seen in years. There's a chance Kyri may be moving to San Diego, which would be OMG So Awesome! Of course, there's also a chance he may be moving to Singapore, which is considerably less accessible in terms of getting to see him more often. We shall see how things play out.

Some days you're just extra glad that you're having a good hair day.

Some old friends of the family are in the area this week, going to Disneyland. By "old friends," I mean my parents met them when my mom and Sue were in the same Lamaze class pre-me. Their son Cody was born a couple weeks ahead of me, and is basically my oldest friend. His first sister was born not too long after my younger sister, so they were childhood friends too.

I haven't seen them in twenty-two years. Somewhat amusingly, the last time I saw them, it was also because they were down here going to Disneyland. We've stayed in quasi-contact; Sue and my mom talk occasionally, and my mom passes on to me what they talked about.

It's kind of weird. In a way, Cody was my first love, in that intense preteen type of love where you know you'll be friends forever. I have no idea if it's true for him as well, but I still love him in that way. I suspect I always will. It's a completely different type of friendship love than the feelings I have for the friends I met in college, who I have now known for nearly half my life, and a completely different love again from the friendship and adoration I have for my husband. It's something that's been a part of me literally since before I was old enough to write or, possibly, speak.

It's... very humbling, to realize that there's something in me that's that old and still holding strong.
