'S probably stupid that doing the dishes and putting them away makes me feel better.

Also watched 8-9 of Emma. They really are taking a different tack than the manga did. Three more episodes to go... wonder how they'll end it.

All the skirt seams are now finished. Somehow, miraculously, I haven't actually bled on the dress yet. My index and middle fingertip on my right hand, though, are looking rather ragged and worse for wear. I know, I know... I should use a thimble. But for this I need to be able to feel the needle coming through the fabric. One more night of sewing and then she's coming over on Thursday for a fitting... good job I was never intending to have the grommets in the dress by then. Going to pin lacing strips on instead in case things need to be moved.

Watched some anime tonight, partially while sewing, partially during dinner, for the first time in a long time. Watched episodes 0-2 of Emma second season. They've added an extra character and some extra elements to the storyline, but thus far it's working okay for me in comparison to the manga. They've animated her ball dress in the opening, though they've gone for a paler color than I'd hoped. Ah well, it's still very pretty....

I also got my Costume College limited classes registration back today! I got all four I'd wanted... one on lady's dancing slippers, one on masquerade masks, one on silk ribbon embroidery, and one on crocheted wristlet gloves! Huzzah~!

But for now, it once again being Past My Bedtime, I'm calling it a night. Oyasumi nasai, all~!

Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] koshka_the_cat's always-amazing productivity, I spent this evening cutting out a chemise out of the cotton batiste I bought a while back. This involved locking the cat in the downstairs laundry/bathroom. Fortunately she didn't spend the entire time making a fuss about it. If I can pull this off, eventually I can use the undergarments both for historical costuming and for cosplay. I have Emma costumes in mind... (that is, the anime/manga of the name, not the Jane Austen novel or any adaptation of it).

I put on DVD episodes 29-30 of Ultraman Moebius to be soothing background noise while I worked. This didn't work quite as well as hoped, as I chanced to glance at the screen and was immediately captivated. I've never really appreciated the differences in video quality until you start getting down into nth-generation VHS copies (a sad thing for the daughter and granddaughter of television engineers to say), but all I could think was "My GOD, it's so clear!"

But it is well past my bedtime and Wonderful Husband is actually abed before me, so off I go. Tomorrow I shall recount to you all the tale of The Work Computer That Worked Fine When I Left Thursday Afternoon But Had Somehow Become A Paperweight Come Tuesday Morning. 'Night~~!

Well, my dance instructor liked the new skirt. And I have to admit, coupled with the strappy heels I wear to the ballroom dance class (and should probably wear to the swing class), I felt quite elegant for a change as we foxtrotted, merengue'd, and tango'd. Of the three, I have to admit that the tango is my favorite. It has friction in it, sparks, love/hate relationships... and it reminds me very much of Fakir and Ahiru's relationship. I need to find a way to write it into the third story in the "happily ever after" arc when I get to it. As it is, I'm still pondering how to shoehorn in the Alice theme.

I started reaming out the costume closet tonight. Finished costumes on this side, works in progress on this side, and the tubs of scrap fabric/fabric to be used/other works in progess out onto the floor of the workroom. Which has massively diminished the available space at the moment and I /still/ haven't found the Victorian corset pieces I was looking for. Grr. But I did find my half-finished pink-brown-and-cream horizontal striped surcoat, so I've ironed the pieces for that and reconsidered some details of construction. It's cut across a 60" width of fabric, so it's going to be pleated in at the neckline and I'm considering possibly leaving the side seam open... maybe just brief ties at the bottom of the sleeve openings? Because with the center front and center back pleating having decorative lacing up the sleeve openings seems kind of silly. But I don't believe I have enough extra fabric for side gores.... Not that this is going to be remotely period, of course. *rolls eyes at self* Peri-oid, maybe. Ah well. For my next trick maybe I'll finally make a period construction white linen underdress for this era. And figure out veils, wimples, and coifs.

Oh, and my eleven-year-old cousin has apparently discovered EGL. And begged me to make her some new clothes. I countered with an offer to her father: she has ice skating lessons Saturday mornings, I'll take her Saturday afternoons and teach her how to sew. Because while I have no objections to making her some clothes, I'd much rather she help me with them and eventually learn how to make things for herself. It's a useful skill. And, hey, maybe this means I can interest her in a Hinaichigo costume....
