LXG: fun! Not the greatest cinematic work ever, but a fun romp through the characters of several works of literature. Best exchange (re: Dorian Gray): "What are you?!" "I'm complicated." Liked Tom Sawyer. Was somewhat shocked to discover that British fiance has NEVER read any Mark Twain works. They're such a large part of my cultural background that... well... just can't imagine never having read any of the stories. Must see about picking up the TPBs of the comic and perhaps the book of the movie as well. Skimmed pages while in the bookstore and it seemed like the author was having fun writing it and dragging in more literary works. ^^

Just saw LXG ourselves and must say it's fun, but the book is superior. Lots of character building got swept under the rug for this movie, sadly. You should do yourself a favor and check the comic out. It is basically the best piece of crossover fanfiction, bar none, out there. Moore has characters from 1800's literature fight and befriend each other. Be warned, the characters in the movie were very bowdlerized from Moore's versions. You might also be pleased to note that in the comics the Blakeneys served in the 1700's League.

The Blakeneys?! EEEE!!! [No, I'm not a SP fangirl, why do you ask?] Will definitely pick up the book on your rec. Thanks! ^^

Okay, granted, have not seen the movie yet, nor read the comic, but I will still faithfully stand by the Super Robot Wars series as the best crossover fanfiction out there. ;) Want to see the movie, though. Mark has been wanting to see it for a while too... maybe sometime this week. :) And then maybe I'll try digging up the comics too, since they're evidently better.

One caveat on the comic is that a) it's nothing like the movie and b) It's by the same guy that wrote Watchmen, calibrate your humor meter accordingly.
