The Backup Plan
Mar. 7th, 2014 06:34 pmI'm on my third muslin mockup of the dress bodice, and hopefully this one has all the issues fixed. Because if it does, then I get to proceed to seeing what I need to do to make the sleeves and collar fit with the changes I've made. Then, and only then, will I get to move onto my actual fabric, a spring green linen I purchased at Joanns a few years ago. It will need a sh*tton of sequins clipped off it eventually. But the embroidery can stay.
So this process is not easy, but at least it is progressing.
In case this dress does not get completed by Sunday morning (probability: HIGH), I've rummaged through my wardrobe, pulled out what might be an actual 1950s skirt, in hideously ugly fabric, that has never fit me quite right, and tried it on. It fits less wrong than it ever has before. Hooray for weight loss! The zipper closes, but the waistband doesn't overlap as it ought to. One more inch.... But pair the skirt with the silk organza petticoat I made a few years ago, and a sorta-1950s silk blouse, and I've got a backup plan.
