...baking may not start tonight because the butter does not seem to be softening. This might possibly be because the house is icy even with the heat on.

Went to the library after work to return most of my books, renew one, and check a few more out. One of the new ones was an anthology edited by Bruce Coville with short stories by lots of authors, especially Tamora Pierce. I read her story first (Numair-related!) then worked my way to the back of the book. Then started again at the front. And discovered that someone had torn ~30 pages out of the book. Intend to return the book tomorrow and let the library know. There is a special level of hell, I am convinced, that is reserved for those who destroy library books. And if there isn't, they at the LEAST need their cards revoked and entrance rights banned.

...it was in the middle of a very good story, too....

Mwahah. We all got let off from work an hour early today in honor of tomorrow being Thanksgiving. This cut off my marathon rounds of Spider Solitare (I'm getting better... it may take me 20+ minutes on the last two hands, but I think my winning average is up to 50%) but meant I got to go to the LIBRARY! Where I checked out all of the Oz books they had but the first one and one written by Baum Jr., snagged also the two Jean Hunnisett books they have (need to peruse and decide if I want them on my Christmas list, due in tomorrow), a baking book, a couture sewing book, and one on style because I need to do something about my everyday clothes. I owe the library $.25 in overdue fees... must remember a quarter next time I go. And then I shopped for food. Because food is good and I like having it every now and again. And then home, and significantly upping my water intake for the day by having a bit of salsa. I remember after Titanic came out, there was a discussion about how Rose's mother was not lacing her corset correctly, and someone voiced the possibility that it was "punishment lacing." I don't do or advocate punishment lacing, but punishment food, sure. Bring it on. "You haven't been drinking enough water? Eat this!" I also watched Rozen Maiden 4 & 5 and have come to the realization that they are doing their damndest to integrate the manga into the anime, despite Certain Major Plot Differences. I've also baked three acorn squash (currently cooling so I can manage to scoop out and puree their flesh in a bit), toasted their seeds, and made cranberry sauce for tomorrow. The pumpkin goop for the scones is currently thawing.
