Chocolate. With Bacon In.
Oct. 3rd, 2009 10:22 pmWonderful Husband and I went to the LA County Fair today (as tomorrow is the last day, and tomorrow he's going to be taken up by work things). It was interesting; neither of us had ever gone to the Los Angeles Fair before, only the Orange County one. We skipped the whole midway section and didn't go on any rides, but had fun tromping through the safari-themed area, which included an outdoor giant chess/checkers set (the possibility of getting appropriate tiles set into our patio to do the same at home is now entered into the mental database of possible home improvement ideas) and several exotic animals. I also spent quite a while going through the arts/crafts contests displays. I have concluded that there's no way I'd ever place with anything crocheted or quilted, but the clothing/costumes category remains possible, as does the baking/preserves area. The livestock display was quite nicely done; Wonderful Husband being asthmatic, he can't go into the one at the OC Fair, but the LA Fair had it set up much more spaciously, across a much bigger area, with fantastic airflow, so I was able to drag him through it with me. (I was vastly amused by a goose that was trying to eat the fur of the angora goat in the next pen; the goat was placidly ignoring the goose yanking on its beard and just ate its hay.) The Green Living building, alas, was disappointing except for (another) exotic animals display that included a sloth, a porcupine with a prehensile tail, and a butterfly cage. Also fun, as always, was keeping an eye on the different food vendors to see what wierd, wonderful, and wacky foodstuffs are being hawked. Second place goes to the chocolate-dipped pickle, but absolute first goes to the chocolate-dipped bacon. Which neither of us were brave enough to try, but will probably be the image that stays with us the longest. ^_^
