Title: The Snow Queen

I kind of feel like I might have read this before. It was overlaid by a faint misty feeling of "this is familiar." On the other hand, I usually have a pretty sharp memory for things I've read, and nothing in this rang my usual jangling bells.

So. This story overlays the Hans Christen Andersen story of The Snow Queen onto the network of Fairy Godmothers the Tales of the 500 Kingdoms universe has set up, to fairly good result. It also deals with Sammi mythos, which was a new and interesting journey. I liked the characters, not all of whom were fresh-faced ingenues, and the twists the story took kept me entertained.

Verdict: Recommended, though I would read The Fairy Godmother first, otherwise you may not know what's going on.

After a while, ALL of Lackey's work starts feeling familiar. I remember liking this, but god help me if I remember the plot... this series got really repetitive after awhile.

I was plowing my way through this series based on one of your reviews, but I had to fight hard to make it through this one. I felt like it was really flat, and I had a hard time building a relationship with any of the characters. It's a shame, as I actually have Sammi ancestry, but meh.
