Length: 404 pages

toothycat, this book was originally an Amazon serial novel. It's like a FBI police procedural had a baby with Seanan's Velveteen series, only instead of superheroes, it's about fairy tales, and not the nice sanitized Disney versions, either. It's also a bit reminiscent of her Incryptid books, particularly the parts in 'em where the world's candy shell breaks and you see the deep dark ugliness underlying....
That said, this was an engaging read and I liked it, staying up past midnight to finish it. (For my sins, the Squiddle decided to wake early today, at 6am....) I'm not sure it feels as polished as some of her other works, but I really liked the punch at the end, where it felt like she dipped into Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett levels of deconstructing the Snow White story. It was perhaps particularly reminiscent of Hogfather.... In any case, it took my breath away, and even if I hadn't liked the rest of the book, Indexing was worth it for that one moment alone.
Verdict: Recommended. Well worth the read.
