Author: Seanan McGuire
Length: 307 pages
Tangentially related to, and in the same universe as the author's Incryptid books. (If you read her online short stories in the universe, that's where SHR and the Healy-Price family really cross over.) That said, this is presented as a not-always-linear set of intertwining short stories about Rose Marshall, a hitchhiking ghost with more than a little bit of a chip on her shoulder. Seanan's been telling her story in songs for years, but finally she gets a book.
The results are... largely good. I definitely want to read this book again. My only complaint is a wee bit of inconsistency on the matter of whether or not ghosts can actually throw up. And the fact that the matter of Rose vs. Bobby Cross (the undead rider who killed her) is not actually finished. Dare I hope for another book?
Verdict: Recommended.
