Wonderful Husband wanted me to ask the other parents of almost-toddlers yesterday at Mommy Matters when they put their child down to bed. The universal answer seemed to be 8:30pm. Which is about two hours ahead of when we'd been putting Squiddle to bed. And yesterday he happened to drop off post-nursing around that time, so I tucked him in bed to give it a go.

I'll give it a few more days to try and see, but on a certain level I don't care. If an 8:30 bedtime continues to move his wakeup time to 4:30am, he's going to bed later in the evening.

At this age, I'd say having a regular bedtime is more important than when that bedtime is. If Squiddle is getting enough rest (and just as importantly, you are) then keep the schedule that is working. The 8:30 bedtime will be great in a few years when Squiddle is going to school.

I have to agree with Tia, it's whatever works for you, your family, and your kid. All three of my kids had different sleep patterns, so they had different bedtimes when they were infants and toddlers. I worked with what was best for them (and for me).

Hm, yeah, I could see that working if YOU get to go to bed at 8:30pm, too, but otherwise...
