I fell down on Nanowrimo over the weekend due to baby stuff. Hopefully I'll be able to write some today.

Squiddle, y'see, has recently taken to producing copious amounts of pee. Which soaks through his (cloth) diapers and leaks out the covers at waist or leg, and wets the outfit he's wearing. And the blankets he's wrapped in. And as I'd only sewn up three flannel swaddling cloths, this ends us up with a shortage of blankies rather quickly. So I pulled a few more flannels out of my wall-o-fabric and cut out some more large squares. I also cut out forty 8"x8" wipes, and have been hemming those on my serger, since we're planning to go off the diaper service at the end of the month.

In the last week, Squiddle has been known to smile in response to others smiling at him, to do pushups during his supervised tummy playtime, and (once) to laugh! He's also gotten introduced to a pacifier, and taken to it quite easily, with no confusion about nursing afterward. Though we are going to be careful about how much pacifier time he gets - it's a tool to prevent fussiness and unhappiness, but can also conceal that he's unhappy because he's hungry or needs a change.

Squiddle and I went for a stroll yesterday, through the park behind Greenwood. Of course, he slept almost the entire walk, but it was good exercise for me, and interesting to note that our house is the only one that hasn't raised the parkside fence by two cinderblocks. What can I say, we like the view. And (I'm jinxing myself typing this), Squiddle was very good last night! He fell asleep at half past ten, and woke up a couple times in the middle of the night, of course, but I changed him, reswaddled him, nursed him, and he dropped right off again in short order. Wonderful Husband got enough sleep, and so did I!

And, finally, I've been reading my way through rather a lot of Le Leche League's articles about pumping milk, finding my way to where I ought to be. I'm only getting/freezing about 4 ounces extra a day, which is roughly one meal for Squiddle. The articles I read have women pumping about four to six times that amount, while still breastfeeding their baby full time! But I don't think I need to be producing that much; there is actually a method behind my madness. My maternity leave is up in four weeks. If I go back to work for two weeks, I get my holiday bonus, and my vacation time rolls over.... Plus, it's nice to have a small stockpile of milk for something like asking my parents to babysit if Wonderful Husband and I want to go out for dinner and a movie.

I can't even imagine producing as much as those books describe! I am producing about the same amount pumping that you are, but I am pumping exclusively. Hazards of being the mother of a preemie who can't nurse yet :(.

She is! (The full story is long and complicated, but the short version is that we have been very very lucky so far). We are also fortunate to be at a university research hospital with a really fantastic NICU. The staff and quality of care here are absolutely amazing.
