Just Keep Swimming

I've been rereading some of Bujold's novels. A Civil Campaign and Captain Vorpatril's Alliance remain my favorites, but I'm happy to report that Cryoburn improves on reread. And its last drabble still has me crying every time I read it.
Also, I went out to a pair of estate sales with my parents this morning! First I've been to since, well, the baby. I didn't get much - a couple embroidery things and a Pyrex lemonade jug - but it was fun.
Two more Grimm episodes down, and probably another tonight. Tarantella was amusing on a few points. One, Monroe being a vegetarian makes so much sense! Two, the "good" spider-woman being named Charlotte. *snerk* And, three, the Pretty Woman pastiche for victim #2. But then there was the end of the episode, where the daughter was also a Spinetod, and I really felt for Nick, because if she doesn't make Charlotte's tragic choice, then he has to do the same thing for daughter as for mother. Last Grimm Standing was less deeply amusing to me, though I wonder if I was missing some visual Fight Club references, not having seen that film. The Lowen being named Leo, though, was in line with the spider named Charlotte. Except this time it actually got pointed out in the episode. I do continue to wonder about Renard, though. And admire his subtlety.
When I was in the hospital having Squiddle, they had highly water efficient toilets, which we dubbed "rocket ship toilets" because they were so loud when they were flushed. And we learned very quickly that Squiddle was noise-sensitive and that the restroom door had to be firmly shut when the toilet was being flushed. Wonderful Husband reports that this early exposure to toilets may well have scarred our son for life, as he flinches at the sound of our regular low-water toilet being flushed. We'll just have to wait and see how this affects his potty training in a couple years. :)
Also, Squiddle is experiencing premature hair loss! I did not know that babies who are born with hair lose it before growing their "permanent" hair. For him, this loss currently looks like a receding hairline - I think it's being lost fastest where his scalp rubs against the mattress protector when I'm side-feeding him. I figure once he's fully bald, we'll call him Lex until he gets his hair back. :)
And, finally, I feel like my bar is set so low these days. My daily goals are: (1) keep Squiddle fed and changed; (2) get dressed, including combing and braiding my hair, and brushing my teeth; (3) make dinner; (4) wash and put away pots, pans, etc, and put dishes in the dishwasher; and (5) set out everything for breakfast the next morning. Anything I accomplish beyond these bare minimums is pure gravy. How can someone so little take up so much time?

Date: 2013-10-13 02:37 am (UTC)And your bar is set about right. Don't worry about anything else. Newborns take up a lot of time.

Date: 2013-10-13 07:43 pm (UTC)As for balding... it does depend on the baby - Kian had a reverse Picard going - he had a strip mid-way around his head where it came out, but then again, my child came out w/ a LOT of hair & had to get his first cut right at 6months cuz it was in his face.
But it does look funny, doesn't it?
