Title: Agatha H. and the Clockwork Princess
Author: Phil and Kaja Foglio
Length: 461 pages
Book two of the novelizations of the Girl Genius comics. I like this one even better than book one; now that the world has been established and the plot can go forward, the writing is really falling into its stride. The novelizations add depth, shading, color, and background that can't really be addressed within the limitations of the comic format. And, like Pratchett's Discworld books, there are many humorous footnotes to savor. My favorites tend to have to do with Captain Bangladesh Dupree. ^_^
Do you have to have read the comics to enjoy these books? Absolutely not. And in many ways, being a word-fixated person, I enjoy them more. They're funny, adventurous, sometimes tragic, and occasionally thought-provoking. But mostly they're a good read.
Verdict: Definitely recommended.
