Author: Suzanne Collins
Length: 455 pages
Book three, and I've finished the series. To be honest, though, I found this book the hardest to get through, mainly because it's so political. Yet, as it details the steps of a war, I also find it useful, as that's something I'm dealing with in Field of Stars. How to write something so alien to my own life experience...?
Another problem with the book, for me at least, is the point where it breaks down into psychotic fugue. Difficult to read, pointless, plotless, and doesn't move the story along. And then, after that, everything wraps up too neatly. Le sigh. The book, as with the pervious two, shines in its action sequences, when Katniss moves and does, following survival from one step to another. When it attempts to delve deeper, into what-ifs and philosophical questions, that's where the character and the writing fall down.
Verdict: If you've read the first two, you should read this one as well to finish off the series.
