Fixer-Upper, In Progress

Yesterday after work, Wonderful Husband and I went to refinance our mortgage. The process, which the bank branch manager had promised us was going to be much faster and easier than last time, was, in fact, not. Rather than half an hour, it was an hour and forty-five minutes before we got out of there. Largely due to Wonderful Husband exercising his awesome math skills and saying "Um, where is this extra money being added on from?" and thus causing three bank people to run around flailing in a clown car-worthy tizzy. Eventually it was straightened out (computer error due to new software) and we signed and got free, with a new loan for fewer years and a lower APR.
Today, we ended up at Ikea after work, looking at (affordable! solid wood) kitchen counters and, possibly, a new kitchen sink. Mainly due to us finally deciding to bite the bullet and get a dishwasher in the next couple months. And at the same time replace the crappy cheap-ass warped laminated plywood kitchen counters that we hate. It won't be a full kitchen remodel (which will involve, at minimum, tearing out cabinets and moving the stove back to its original position), but at least a step in the right direction. Whichever previous owner remodelled Greenwood did a lousy, unqualified job, resulting in actual structural damage. Which damage we corrected before moving in, but still there are remnants of what this place used to be. Fortunately, remnants of the good as well as the bad. Otherwise we'd've never bought the house.
