Okay, so I ended up reading one more book before midnight last night.
Title: Nicholas St. North and the Battle of the Nightmare King
Author: William Joyce & Laura Geringer
Length: 228 pages
Another Christmas present, this one from my parents. (Yes, I got the entire series for Christmas. I love getting books!)
This is for a significantly older age set than the MiM and Sandman books. Pre-teens, I'd guess? That said, it's significantly better written than the film novelization. And it was definitely enjoyable. But in reading it, I finally began to understand what Esse means when she says that the books and the movies don't happen in the same universe. They almost fit together... but like two puzzle pieces that aren't actual matches, they're not the same thing. Though I do find it most curious that Jack Frost is in the constellations in the MiM book... but I digress.
Verdict: The book is fun, well written, has lovely illustrations, and is enjoyable as a completely separate entity from the film. Recommended.
And my annual sum-up: I have finished 23 books this year (I am still trying to slog my way through Patrick Rothfuss' The Name of the Wind, which I should like, but I'm stuck at page 408 and having difficulty making myself continue), for a grand total of 5950 pages.
