Sitting here on New Year's Eve with a heating pack on my left shoulder, which I apparently managed to wrench somehow. I'm on call-in status for jury duty, which means I get to check each day if I'm going in or not. This is new; each time before, I've always had to go in for a day. I kind of wonder if I don't prefer that to the waiting and checking, but you take what you can get.

2012 was, overall, a good year for me. A lot of tears over medical issues, but those seem to be (*knock on wood*) resolved. The un-fun event of my car dying, but that's what we have a savings account for. I found a new fandom that I love and that inspires me. And I finished my first novel, got it through a few rounds of revisions, and started on my second. So even if I didn't get a vacation this year, I'm counting it as a win.

My resolutions for 2013 are pretty much, (1) go to the gym 3x a week, (2) finish Field of Stars and get Queen's Choice saleable, and (3) get my hobbies better organized.

And now for the last two books I've read this year, put together since they're connected:

Title: The Man in the Moon, and The Sandman
Author: William Joyce
Length: collectively 104 pages

Part of my Christmas gifts from, respectively, my sister and my sister-in-law. These are very much picture book suited to reading with/to four-year-olds and up. That said, I really enjoyed them both, so they're good for putative adults like myself too. The art is lovely, and the stories not all light fluff. I didn't end up thinking "oh, god, it's a kids' book" though they very much are.

Verdict: If you have small children, love good art &/or fairy tales, or are a fan of Rise of the Guardians, definitely pick these up.
