This afternoon, we finally started to repaint the shower room/main bathroom. It's been a fairly strident green ever since we moved in here, with evidences of patchy spackling by previous owners, a few holes in the wall (possibly due to water damage?), and more of the general the-people-who-had-Greenwood-before-us-didn't-take-good-care-of-her malaise.
So we removed everything that could be removed, blue-taped the rest, and fastened billowy painter's plastic over the sink and toilet, and did a white base coat. It's patchy, but at least the room is now all one color, faint mottled white-green.
This made us a little late for going over to my parents' place for dinner (which was, as always, delicious; my mother is a fantastic cook). After we got back, we changed into our gym clothes and went to Lowe's, where we picked out and picked up a gallon of "Frosty," which is a soft green-blue. Then we went to the gym, in the same center, and sweated for an hour.
Thing is, I asked Wonderful Husband if he could remember what colors the rooms were when we bought this place. Both the bathrooms are/were still their originals (strident yellow and strident green), but beyond that, the only room either of us can remember is the horrible Pepto-Bismol-with-a-hint-of-orange of the back bedroom. I think this means we're doing it right.
So this project is not getting done today, but given that we both want the main bathroom back, it should be fairly quick. It won't cover all the flaws; there's still the crappy-ass texturing and one small hole in the wall, but it will make it look significantly better, in time for Thanksgiving and (hopefully!) a visitor.
We also got another quote yesterday from a tree-trimming service, and though theirs wasn't the lowest quote, we felt very comfortable with them, so hopefully our trees will also be wrangled by T-Day.
