Mar. 8th, 2003 11:55 pmIt's really sad when you realize you've lost your faith and have to rebuild it.
My country is going to war. Without the consent of its people. My mother and I were talking about this today and she mentioned that in the sixties, too, the government ignored people's protests. That piece fit. And I know that some people are really for this war, but I am not. As a pacifist, I cannot be. All I can do is mourn the dead and mourn even more the fact that as a species, humans fail time and time again to advance. For centuries we have been stuck at the level of killing one another. I begin to understand the side of the Chi no Ryuu in X. Maybe we've been given our chance and have failed. I can't remember the exact quote, but my philosophy was summed up perfectly in Babylon Five: "The only truth in war is that people die."
Maybe I should move to England after all. I'm sure there are ways to grow tomatoes and jalepenos there....
I've also lost faith in the movie industry with the realization that no matter how far and away Spirited Away is the best film of the five for Best Animated Feature, it will not win because it's up against two Disney films (both of which, incidentally, I liked) and given the chance to promote their own films over one merely marketed by them, Disney will choose to promote Lilo and Stitch and Treasure Planet to the voting Academy.
Reading new issue of Threads magazine in the vain hope of finding faith in sewing. As it is, I think the few things I will retain faith in will be those I know personally.
