Bellydance class started again today. Except that we have the next two weeks off because the city is remodelling the center where we meet. ^_^;;

After jiggling my copious jigglables, I went to the Farmer's Market, except I got waylaid on the way by signs for an estate sale, one not on my list. Interesting old house, picked up a few things, continued on to the market, picked up way more stuff there. The prices are sometimes comparable with supermarket prices, sometimes not, but I've discussed it with Wonderful Husband and there are many reasons I'm happy paying a higher price. Transparency; I can talk to the people who grow and raise what I buy there. Lack of pesticides; all the vendors are organic. Commerce; by doing so, I support small and local businesses. Etc. Plus, like with getting the twenty-pound bag of oranges for juice, I get a better-tasting product, even if it costs a bit more.

First world problems, I know.

Two more estate sales, a fruitless stop at Sprouts (the one thing I was looking for, gluten, being cross-contaminated with nuts, grr), and I was home and in the garden. I planted and got mulched onions, Swiss chard, garlic, shallots, and radio calendula. I'd dug amendments into part of one of the beds a few weeks ago and just left it uncovered until I could get around to planting things. The soil was thus, unsurprisingly, bone-dry. The section next to it, where I peeled back some of the straw mulch to finish planting alliums, was nicely moist and had worms. Mulch really works! And now it is raining, so the garden's getting a nice skywater drink in addition to its earlier hosewater drink.
