Shifting Temporal Expectations
Mar. 28th, 2012 11:04 amWonderful Husband's new job is farther away than his old one, so it's intriguing adjusting to the difference the increased commute makes. For instance, it used to be that sometimes I would be up, dressed, fed, and out the door before he even achieved the first of those objectives. Now we're actually both getting up at the same time and he leaves long before I do. I've taken to setting out breakfast implements and filling the tea kettle the night before, just to expedite things in the morning.
Of course, the commute also exists at the salty end of the day, so I'm getting home before he is. I didn't even see him Monday until after class, and I'm expecting the same again tonight. He's also going to be taking a class Wednesday evenings (in the room right next to mine!) starting on the 11th, so I'm hoping he'll be allowed to take a half-lunch that day and get home a little earlier. Otherwise we may have to go to the college separately (which is silly, even if it's only a half-mile from home) and he won't be getting supper until 10pmish (which is unacceptable)....
