On Non-Disposable Things

sakon76As many people have, I inherited a plethora of handkerchiefs from my grandmothers. You know the kind... dainty brightly colored cotton things that belong, like my grandmothers' gloves, to a more genteel age. They reside in a flowery hatbox and get pulled out every couple years just to be gone through and admired.
The last time I went through them, I pulled out several plain white handkerchiefs which, upon reflection, probably belonged to one or the other of my grandfathers. I dislike the disposability and waste of paper tissues, so instead of carrying a packet of that stuff in my handbag, I nowadays carry a handkerchief. This is also related to why I switched our household over to cloth napkins a couple years ago.
Between sickness and emotional upset from all the runaround bullshit I've been going through with doctors' offices courtesy of my insurance being dickwads and unnecessarily complicating things, this is the first week I've ever actually run through my entire supply of hankies....
