Brilliant? Depressing? Both?
Jan. 17th, 2012 06:21 pmSo sometimes the radio gods just present you with a nigh-perfect back-to-backing of tunes that you'd never thought of putting together, but when you hear them, the pairing just clicks for you. My personal best example of this dates back to the '90s when I heard "Don't Fear the Reaper" followed by "Dust in the Wind." Maybe not anyone else's idea of perfect, but for me it just worked.
Today on my drive home one of the local stations (100.3 The Sound) was playing The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Which, okay, I like fine enough. You usually only hear it on or around November 10th, so a bit odd to hear it mid-January. It was succeeded by Major Tom.
...Two songs about tragic death in a row. Not sure whether I think the pairing is good, or simply depressing.
I'm also left speculating about whether or not the first one was played in light of the wreck of the Costa Concordia.
