It would be a lie to say that the whole house has been cleaned within an inch of its life. However, the kitchen, dining room, and laundry room have been deep-cleaned, as has the working bathroom courtesy of Wonderful Husband. The living room is mostly okay, as is our bedroom. The sewing area and office... well, there are X many hours in the day. They're not touched yet. Nor is the patio. The mostly-done gate has one more board on it; all that's left is the fractional boards on either end, and the fastening pin, which will involve drilling a hole through the brickwork. Dishes are washed, laundry is ironed and put away, all but one of the Christmas presents thus far are wrapped, the rosebed out front is weeded though the kitchen garden is still a disaster area, and I am going to sleep so well tonight.

Why, yes, my inlaws are arriving today. Why do you ask? :)

I have also recently been rereading Vathara's epic Avatar (cartoon, not blue aliens) fic "Embers" over on ff.net. And, as with Tainry's Bayverse Transformers fic "Borealis," or Taralynden's G1 Transformers fic "Story of a Lifetime," I am humbled at the scope and epic and sheer planning that goes into the writing. I am finding hints and setups of things forty-plus chapters before they actually come into play in the narrative! I so feel like a hack.

That said, since I knew December would be a stress-intensive month (in a completely different way than November was...), I've given myself the month off from the novel. Too many RL things to deal with; I'm going to let things sit and percolate and then start editing in January and also find a set of topological as well as conventional maps of the west coast of the USA, and also of the entire North American continent. Possibly the South American continent as well; I need to study up on the extent of the Aztec empire at various times and figure out where I want my boundaries to be.

*hugs* I hope you are able to enjoy your in-laws visit; it sounds like you got a lot done!

Yes, letting stories sit and stew for a while is a very good exercise, may it serve you well.

The USGS has excellent topo maps on their website, as well as Topoquest, if that helps at all.

`Oh man, I know that feeling... And you managed to get more done than I did a few weeks ago with two helpers! lol

I think I was recced "Embers" by RL best friend, and I have yet to start Borealis (I seem to be the last one! lol), but I've been keeping up with SoaL for a few months now...

I have heard somewhere that you should take a break between the writing and editing phases, just so you can come back fresh. Hopefully this will work for you. :)
