Go Fish
by K. Stonham
first released 14th November 2011
The four adults and two children sat in a loose circle between the tank and the fire that was currently cooking googly-eyed fish. The youngest two sat back-to-back, lounging at ease, their hands at such an angle that none of the adult players could see their cards. The other sibling pair in their group, however, were shooting daggers at one another with their eyes.
"Tygra," Lion-O said too calmly, "do you have any... twos?"
The elder brother smirked. "Go," he said, smug malice and ego rampant in his tone, "fish."
"Whiskers," the young king swore, reaching for the pile of cards in the center of their ring.
The Wily twins fell over, laughing raucously.
"You swear," Kit said, "like a little kid."
Half affronted and half ashamed, Lion-O hunched his shoulders in and looked at his hand of cards, which just kept fanning bigger and bigger as the game went on.
Grinning, the twins sat back up, card shark wiliness gleaming in their eyes.
"Kat," Panthro said. "Do you have any sevens?"
Scowling, Kat fished two out of his sheaf and handed them over.
Tygra smirked. "Lion-O, do you have any fives?"
With an expression identical to WilyKat's, Lion-O fished out his sole five and passed it to his brother. Tygra casually drew the three matching cards out of his hand and spread them before himself. He looked back up at his brother, unbearably smug.
"Hmm." Cheetara pursed her lips and looked up across the circle. "Panthro, do you have any nines?"
The bulky warrior pulled one out.
She took the card. "Read them and weep, boys," she said, and placed her remaining four cards on the ground.
"Aha," WilyKit breathed in admiration, her eyes wide as she looked at Cheetara's spread.
"Winner," the cleric said, smiling, "and still champion."
