I LOVE the gym when it's quasi-empty and I have my pick of machines, no waiting! I was waffling on going tonight, but I'd promised myself a four-day stretch, and I have a couple of confirmed health issues (overweight, high blood pressure), one possible health issue (I need to ask my doctor if she thinks I have it, but the aforementioned two are signs for it), and one potential health problem (type 2 diabetes; I'm a candidate from both sides of my family) that I really need to nip in the bud. So I went.

British cuisine has something of a bad rep as being unimaginitive and bland. I don't think this is entirely warranted, since I'm pretty sure my culinary horizons have expanded rather a lot due to my visits to England. Both through all the things [livejournal.com profile] toothycat has introduced me to, and through having meals with my inlaws. Case in point: my dinner is a ploughman's sandwich, with Branston Pickle (we've nearly used up the jar of chutney we'd been having on sandwiches recently) and sides of pickled onions, pickled beet slices, and mustard dill pickled garlic. The last one I can lay at the feet of the Gilroy Garlic Festival having a booth at the RenFaire the last couple years, but the rest? All tastes I picked up in England. So maybe this Christmas I'll have another try at the stinky fish my mother includes at the smorgasbord....

I went to the gym today :D It felt so good, especially since I binged on chocolate so badly yesterday. But at a stoner movie night, how could I not? D:

I think anyone who says British cuisine is bad is clearly just not making it right. No, it's not the spiciest, most exotic food ever, but when you make roast beef right, my god it's so good.

British people invented apple pie. Dude, the world owes them that much.

I think I picked up a bottle of pickled garlic from them... I really need to open that at some point.

We always stock up on UK goodies when the Scottish festivals come around. (Okay, granted that's mostly candies and treacle cake in a tin, but still...) Then again, my husband likes black pudding and haggis unironically, so we may not be typical 'muricans.
