I'm going to be posting going-to-the-gym posts here for a while, as a way of keeping myself accountable.

After doing a bit of stuff around the house this morning, Wonderful Husband and I went to the gym, where he proceeded upstairs towards the weights and I proceeded forwards, towards the non-weights. I tweaked my timing on the three machines so I ended up at an hour total and 590 calories down. Discovered (since I got a machine that had working sensors this time) that it's decidedly harder to keep my heartrate at the target on the ellipticals. Kept wanting to soar over it. I spent my time listening to the score for RotF. Hoping to get time to write more on Deus Ex Machine 6 tonight. For now, garden stuff to do. I've also decided that 10 am Sunday is a decent time to go in. The programming on their televisions is far less inane at that time than it was at 6:45 pm on Friday.

Gah, those stupid ellipticals. Used one when we were living in the hotel -- the machine is excellent. Fantastic workout that isn't straining. Buuut...to keep my heart rate down to the level it wanted, I had to slow down to the point the sensors thought I wasn't moving at all. And shut off all the resistance, which forced me to speed up and the heart rate went back up...

I ignored it after that. Somehow it's good to know that I'm apparently just strange there. XD

Flyby, at work

I tried an elliptical. Once.

In order to keep my heartrate down from the "too high" range I had to go so slow that I didn't have any momentum to keep the machine moving (the resistance was too high with no way to change it). Even then after ten minutes I was about to pass out.

Never had a problem like that with any other machine.

I thought bringing your heart rate up was the idea? Too high? Doesn't that just put you into "burning more calories"?

Good idea about posting your progress. It will keep you motivated. I should do the same thing.

There's a point where you actually are doing harm to your body if you bring it up too high.

Ah. That explains it. I've been able to bring mine up into the high intensity range but never into the danger range.

I can easily slide into the danger zone if I'm not paying attention, or I use a more difficult (for me) machine.

Then again, I'm in horrible shape so my heart rate rises faster.

Never tried an elliptical. Probably would find some novel way to break it.

We're finally getting nice gardening weather! Dad and I savaged parts of the front yard beds, chopping down the iris remnants, pulling out dead cinquefoil and waging war on the four-o-clocks. Bulb time approacheth!

Yay for more Deus Ex!!!

Elliptical machine readers can sometimes be off by miles. You are better off getting a cheap heart rate watch at Big 5 if the numbers are important to you.
