So in an effort to be good, I have spent the past couple nights powering through the mending pile, conquering shirts, skirts, and trousers with a vengeance. Only one garment has been deemed beyond repair, and that's more due to how worn it is than my lack of abilities. I could fix its current tears, sure, but the silk is in a state sufficient that it would only rip again elsewhere at the next wearing. But the end result of it is that I have one dress and a quilt left in the pile. Huzzah!

As my reward, I pulled out the vintage Singer Wonderful Husband's family gave me. It was his grandmother's (she's still alive, but living in an assisted living facility now) and it's a simply gorgeous hand crank machine, with minimal wear and no rusting that I can find. I'd already unearthed my mother's treadle machine over the weekend out of curiosity and found that it dates to 1912 (unfortunately I can't remember ATM what model it turned out to be). This one is a 28K, made in Clydesdale, Scotland in February of 1940. Its manual is unfortunately missing pages 15-18 and I can't find a scan of a model 28 manual online to print out the pages it lacks.

I am contemplating attempting to sew at least a minor project on this machine. We shall see what, and how it goes.
