I so very definitely didn't make my sewing challenge for the week. I'm not really beating myself up about it either; I was pushing too hard (keep in mind I have an eight hour workday with an hour commute on either side of it so I don't actually end up with a whole lot of time in a day to sew) and absolutely could not do anything Friday due to sleep deprivation. I went to bed at a sensible time Friday night and shall endeavor to do so tonight as well.

Wonderful Husband suggested a better way to tackle the underskirt, and I spent most of the day considering it, and finally am going ahead with implementing it. Basically he suggested cutting a (wide) strip off the highly snazzy underlayer that's supposed to show, and sewing it to the bottom of the taffeta underskirt (which doesn't show), rather than constructing a whole separate skirt layer of the stuff. I'm pinning them together now, which involves periodic pleats to deal with the fullness.

We ran around this morning, me dragging Wonderful Husband first to a couple estate sales and then we did grocery shopping, card shopping, card mailing, and lunch. The estate sales were both very disappointing... at least until I wandered into the garage of the first one, where the shelves were crammed with old, dusty canning jars. I got fifty-five jars (including some zinc lids, three blue glass jars, and five bail wire jars) and some new lids for just under $15. Which is about as much as a *dozen* new jars would cost me. So total score. They just need washing. Lots and lots of washing. Fortunately there were no spiders or their webs. Just dust.

This afternoon I made salsa at my mother's request and took a couple jars with us to the mini-family party in honor of my sister being down visiting from Washington. Old stories and new were told, media discussed, plans made, my mother's excellent lasagna consumed, and a good time had by all.

And now I finish pinning the last two yards of this trim, and then I go to bed.

I totally understand the need for sleep. My 2 year old still doesn't sleep well at night. Don't be too hard on yourself.

Oh, I'm new and have been a fan of your lovely stories for many months. Fnally broke down and joined LJ. :-)
