Grr Dammit No No Please No
Mar. 17th, 2011 10:17 amLast night I got a very short review session in the writing class, but in a good way for a change: apparently the section I submitted was very strong and had very little anyone felt needed editing. So yay! We also did a short in-class writing assigment based on sentence variety. One sentence starting with a gerund, one starting with a preposition, and one sentence containing at least two verbs. Pffft. Child's play. I strung mine into a short scene, and the reaction was applause. I quote my classmate Pat: "I'm glad I don't have to go after that."
When I got home, I dug through my shelves looking for some white lining fabric for the underskirt of
stitchy's costume and utterly failed to find it. I eventually gave up and went with some cream taffeta and cut and sewed that instead. It needs the center back seam allowances sewn down and to be hemmed, but I decided to put that off in favor of something perhaps more vital:
Oiling the sewing machine. I was noticing an occasional skipped stitch on the seams. Not enough to be a real concern (yet) but enough that I want to do whatever I can in the way of preventative maintenance. Because I reallyreally don't want to have to give the machine over to the repair shop for at least another month and a half. I have the overlock machine I could continue using during the repair time if needs be, but I have a deadline and don't want to have to switch mental modes in the middle of it. I cleaned the lint out before starting this dress, and switched to a new size 11 needle, so I shouldn't be having any problems. I suspect it's the timing and will need to go in for maintenance, but I'd really like it to wait on that.... It now sounds like it's running smoother, so I'll cross my fingers and hope.
