Mostly Stitching Stuff
Mar. 11th, 2011 11:23 amWas up until midnight-thirty finishing the next (and hopefully last) iteration of
stitchy's costume mockup. Despite this, I am feeling pretty good thus far. Tomorrow, fabric shopping! I am pretty well determined, though, to only get a few things: a pattern I want from Michael Levine, some rhinestones from Bohemian Crystal to repair some vintage jewelry (if I remember to take the jewelry along), and a yard or so of white silk organza, probably from Fabrics Fabrics, to stabilize bias necklines and the like. I have a bunch of silk organza already, but it's hot pink, which isn't so useful under white or pastel fabrics.
Thanks to Colette Patterns, I have found a new (to me) fashion designer whose work I must learn more about: Elizabeth Hawes. I am seriously in love with at least half of the dresses in that article!
Costume College seems to be stepping up a little this year; I've actually already been informed of what classes they have me scheduled to teach! They didn't ask me to do the blackwork class, alas, but I'll be teaching a class about steel boning, and the class about medieval dress. I've informed Wonderful Husband that this is going to be an excuse to do up sample garb for the both of us so that the next time we go over to England we can take pictures in locations of appropriate antiquity. He hemmed and hawed until I told him medieval garb takes up a lot less volume than the RenFaire Elizabethan stuff he was thinking of. So I know what my next major sewing project is going to be after the Costume Con stuff gets done. Time to break out the stash of linen!
My poor newest Butterfly Blouse has been sadly relegated to being hand-finished during my Wednesday night writing class. I think (hope) I'll be able to finish it next week.... I've also been slowly wading through the next book from my to-read stack during stolen marginal time: lunch at work. The book's only 423 pages, but it's a collection of short stories by different authors, with no unifying theme, so I'm having to reset my brain and shift gears for each. It's a bit disconcerting. :/
