Today's activities included belly dance class and an estate sale, then a lot of stuff at home. I:

--planted nine rosebushes
--baked two loaves of bread
--got caught up (finally!) on washing dishes
--bought my mother's birthday card and wrapped her present
--Advantage'd both cats (they hate this)
--watered the garden
--did lots of laundry
--swept half the house

And Wonderful Husband helped with a good deal of the above and more importantly:

--did taxes

Then we took my parents out to Amazon barbeque for a (belated) birthday dinner for my mother, gave her her gift, which she seemed to like, and sent them home with one of the aforementioned loaves of bread, and a bucketful of lemons.

To report: the clay pot waterers seem to be working as they're supposed to. I didn't water those beds all week, but they're definitely damp, and the hostas and violets at least are thriving. Hard to tell which (if any) of the columbines are going to make it, but at least a few are Not Dead Yet, so we'll see. And it was hot today (78F in the shade) and is supposed to be hot again tomorrow, so I'm glad I got all the outdoors stuff done. Tomorrow I'll finish sweeping the floors, and spend the rest of the day doing sewing stuff, because I'm too wiped to finish even the sweeping tonight.

Hooray for DIY clay pot buried thingies! A question: I realize that since you live in Cali, you don't get rain all that often and the pots are actually needed pretty consistently. How about other areas of the country? Do they just stay filled when the ground is already saturated?

I would guess that in a wetter climate, the pots would simply stay filled while the ground was saturated, and eventually secrete their contents when the ground dried out....
