Title: Artemis Fowl and the Atlantis Complex
Author: Eoin Colfer
Length: 322 pages
So I began this book with feelings of vague trepidation. The last few Artemis Fowl books just haven't been as good as the first couple, and the way this one started, I was dreading slogging through yet another.
I was very happy to be wrong. I couldn't put the book down.
The problem with Artemis, of course, is that he's so bloody smart. It makes it hard to come up with book after book of things that actually challenge your antagonist/protagonist. This volume turns him against himself and takes him out of commission for the action. He's present... he just has no agency. It's brilliant. And it leaves off with an opening for a sequel, to which I am looking forward.
Verdict: highly recommended. But you want to read at least the first couple Artemis Fowl books first or you'll miss a lot.
