This last weekend was Costume College, which is part of why I've been scarce around these here parts. The new hotel (not all that far from the old hotel) was about a fifty mile drive each way from home, so having no close friends attending with whom I could share a room, I drove it each day. As always, I did not attend the Gala or the Tea, but I had a good time nonetheless. There were lots of pretty costumes to look at, both in the Exhibit room (OMG the room for it at the Marriott is so much better than the rooms at the Airtel) and in what people were wearing around. Myself, I stuck to skirts and blouses (and made sure to wear my Butterfly Blouse on Sunday to show the proprietor of Decades of Style; she liked it).

The bonus theme track for this year was Steampunk, which while I think it's neat, isn't something that appeals to me so much to do myself, so there was less programming that interested me than usual. That said, I have a half-finished 1890s evening cape (Friday class), a half-finished Elizabethan corset (Saturday class), and did find a few panels that kept my interest. I also taught two classes on Sunday: How to Clip, Dip, and Tip Your Own Steel Boning (~25 attendees, took about 20 minutes of the alloted hour but I think it went well), and Basic Hand Embroidery (had 3 people sign up; ONE showed, grr. But she got 2 hours of one-on-one embroidery instruction). Next year the theme is Medieval, which interests me somewhat more.

I purchased some silk embroidery thread for my next project after I finish the napkins, a busk for my bodice, two Decades of Style patterns, and from the Bargain Basement, some embroidery thread and patterns, some sewing patterns, a couple pieces of fabric, and some sewing miscellanea. Finally having nothing left on my docket for the year (no more conventions to plan for and mentally alot energy to), and having spent two days this weekend sewing, I am fired up to clean house and set to projects!

And while I was off gadding about like a Mayfly, Wonderful Husband was home supervising workmen. Backyard sprinkler system is repaired, the side alley of the house has been paved and the beds on either side have sprinklers installed, as do the bed in front of the house and the one by the side of the driveway. It all looks so much better than it did! Now to pick out rosebushes for that side-of-driveway bed. Also the garage now has power beyond the door control, and the sprinklers are all on a timer.
