Today was a day full of doing. Returning the truck to my parents, with ~30 gallons of compost in the back for them. Giving my mother her pick of melon and squash seedlings. Picking up tomato stakes and a replacement pot for one that got cracked while my cousin house-sat for us over the winter holidays. Catching up on ironing and laundry. Making a nice dinner for my parents as it was Mother's Day. Washing dishes and going through edits on the ten pages I'm turning into my class this week. Whacking CCD characters into more-or-less working with me on finishing up that WIP fic. (Surprisingly it's been Suoh needing whacking rather than Nokoru.)

For dinner, I roasted a leg of lamb atop scalloped potatoes, accompanied it with sauteed carrot ribbons and peas from the garden, and finished everything up with blueberry cobbler. It was all quite yummy... I'm trying to figure out why the blueberry cobbler worked so much better than the last blueberry pie I made, and I think it's something to do with not having a soggy bottom crust. Not entirely sure, though. I gave my mother some Johnny-Jump-Up violets I'd grown from seed in a nice pot, and a small vintage bowl I'd found at an estate sale that just had one of those "take me home" vibes. I think she liked both.

Oh, somehow I ended up with a baby worm in the sink and while I was rinsing a dish in the other side of the sink I watched it moving around. I'd always thought a worm's digestive tract went through its body in a straight line, but as I watched it move I noticed the dark part inside it was actually in a spiral. Kinda cool. After I finished washing the dish I rescued the worm and put him/her/it in one of the garden beds by a strawberry plant.

Hooray for baby worms, compost, seedlings and gardens. Another interest we have in common :-) We have a vermicompost bin out back in the garden. So much fun to show my boys the babies...

Your dinner sounds lovely. I need to get re-inspired to cook the way I've recently been inspired to write.

Sounds like a nice day, much better than mine ended up being.
To help with the soggy bottom of the pie i've been told by my grandma to use some egg white on the bottom of the inside of the pie crust before you put blueberies in it to keep it from getting soggy. Let me know if it works? I might do my own blueberry pie soon, i'm suddenly craving it.
