Saturday in Planting Season

Went out and about on my usual Sunday morning run of local estate sales. Except, sadly, two of the three today were actually yard sales. I hate it when people deliberately misstate things like that. But between all three I found nothing that I wanted. Still, it was a nice hour's exploratory drive around various neighborhoods.
Wonderful Husband mowed the lawns today while I puttered about with potting up more leggy tomatoes. He also helped me clear a tree stump from one of the side beds in the back yard. I then dumped a couple buckets of compost into the roughly 7'x3' patch, dug it in, and planted five tomatoes that were ready to go in the ground. Three were heirlooms (Costoluto Genovese) and the other two were volunteers so I'll just have to see what I get. After a significant afternoon lie-down (I outdid myself during the hottest part of the day) I also did another round of seed starting with various flowers, herbs, melons, squash, and corn and dug out my mini greenhouse frame and set it up sans plastic so that the seed trays are at least off the ground and somewhat more out of the way. I'm actually near out of trays at the moment: I only have a few 4" packs left, which irks me a bit as the corn I started today I'm thinking to go to my parents for a second, staggered planting of corn for them and also so that they can decide which variety they prefer. I still need to start some corn for myself! :) But tomorrow I'll finally get the potatoes into the ground, and Wonderful Husband and I will go ice skating. Tonight, though, I shower and relax and catch up with washing the dishes.
