Amused and Achy
Apr. 3rd, 2010 07:15 pmWent to an estate sale with my mother this morning. I picked up a bunch of very dusty canning jars, a few Christmas ornaments, and two cookbooks. One was the old standard Betty Crocker cookbook (a whole fifty cents!); the other (for a quarter!) is the 1950 Army/Air Force recipe book. Just under five hundred pages of recipes for how to cook for a hundred hungry men at a time! I may try scaling down some of the recipes, but I figured it was worth it just for uniqueness. Mom and I also hit up Savers, where my biggest scores were a pair of near-mint Birkenstocks for $4, a brand-new (unworn) summer dress for $9.50, and a very nice garnet/marcasite bracelet for $10. We were also very amused to spot pieces of her Noritake set there, though they remained unpurchased since she wasn't sure what pieces she might need.
Of the 25 bare-root strawberries I put in the garden, five have unfurled actual green leaves thus far, and many more look to have living stems, so we'll see what percentage actually survived. *crosses fingers* Wonderful Husband and I did yardwork today, and the backyard is looking slightly more ship-shape than it did this morning. Among many other things, he banquished the asparagus ferns for me. I love him.
And now I go, for the dryer is beeping at me that my new dress has been fully cooked and I'm going to go change into it and we're going to try the local British pub's cuisine for dinner.
