Embroidering linen napkin... mmm, three of eight at the moment. (No, not Borg napkins. Sadly?)

Between Friday morning and Saturday afternoon we got another three inches of rain. Insignificant next to what got dumped on the East Coast in the same time period, I know, but still nicely impressive for Anaheim. I convinced Wonderful Husband to go to a nearby estate sale with me, which is a habit I should probably stop. The dragging him with me, I mean. For $14, I got four vintage silk scarves (one is 3 yards long of pale blue silk chiffon; another is earmarked as a gift for someone who reads this blog), a red and white handsewn quilt that needs a little rehabilitation, two vintage tablecloths, another gift item for someone else who reads this blog, and a topless biscuit tin with historical fashions printed on the sides, filled with buttons, embroidery floss, a packet of white and gold rickrack, and two unopened covered belt kits. I spent an enjoyable afternoon untangling the softball-sized tangle of embroidery thread; I can understand keeping the pieces that are a foot or longer, but why did this person also throw the 3" or 1" scraps into the tangle? Sigh. Still, have added the full skeins to my "for classes I teach" pile and wound most of the rest onto cards and put them in my box. The black threads are being used on the aforementioned napkin. ^_^

I did submit the forms for three classes to Costume College. I'm offering to teach again the "Introduction to Embroidery" class, as well as the "Full-Sized Fairy Wings" class, but I also finaly ponied up to submit the "Clip, Dip, and Tip" class on how to order, cut, and finish steel boning by the yard. I should know in a month or two if I'll actually be teaching any of them.

Also on Saturday, Wonderful Husband did our taxes and submitted them!!! This is part of why he is Wonderful! We have decided that in the future, Valentine's Day (or around then) shall be Taxes Day, and Taxes Day shall be Valentine's Day. ^_^

Sunday I got housecleaning done and we finished off the laundry and took a three-to-four mile walk. I also twoodled about a bit in the garden; last year's bean and melon trellises finally got pulled up and put away, I planted some radish, spinach, and bok choi seeds, both piles of compost got turned, etc. The first pile of compost is approaching readiness, I think. And shipping boxes and the dead branches that came down in the last windstorm got cut up and put in the appropriate bins for the city.

The work I've been having done on my moderate case of gum disease has come to its conclusion for now (I get to go back in every three months for a maintenance cleaning), so now I get to move on to other dental things to be done. Tomorrow morning first thing I go in for two fillings. The worst part of the dentist's office, I have decided, is not the actual physical discomfort, it's the particular whine-pitch of the dental tools that gets inside your head and tries to drill through your brain....

As one who has dental issues and a problem with the pitch of the tools, I know where you're comming from.
Next time if you can, take and Mp3 player, a cd player or something along those lines and use the headphones.
It's not ultimate solution, but it really helps me when I go.
