2008 in Retrospect / 2009 Resolutions

Yes, I made a New Year's pie last night, since I'd just bought twenty-three pounds of apples for various nefarious purposes. And for the fact that they were $.29/lb. The pie went well with the chicken paprikash and brown rice we had for dinner. ^_^
So... 2008. As before, I failed my goal of reading fifty books in a year, though by a good deal less than I did in 2007. I also failed to lose weight, but on the other hand I didn't gain any either. I spent time gardening and focusing on nurturing green things. I acquired a kitten. I also acquired a house. I lost a friendship. I voted. I started contributing to my retirement fund, both through a Roth IRA and also through finally setting up a 401K at work. I failed to reach my personal savings goal, but only by $500, which is not too bad. I taught myself the skill of canning. I also started to get better at cooking.
I've written down a list of goals for 2009, which (unlike my wishlist for my garden) are probably attainable. This year I will try to actually read fifty books. I will also try to finish writing one. I will try to finish up one work-in-progress item (whether fanfiction or sewing) each month. I will try to lose fifteen pounds. I will also try to get to work on time even though I'm moving further away from it. I will attempt to finish this map-of-the-world embroidery project (now on color 18 of 45...)! And, finally, I will learn to bake yeast breads. These last two I've actually already started on. My first (tiny bit burnt on the top) loaf is cooling on the counter downstairs, and in the morning I'll have a slice as toast and see how badly I may or may not've messed it up.
