Mwahaha. Finally got to one of the parts that was my original inspiration for this story.

The driver's side door to the Mini opened and out stepped a man, tiny even by organic standards, and somehow not quite of Earth, even though Bumblebee couldn't quite put a servo on what made him seem not Terran. His hair was dark and sparse and neatly combed, and he wore a smart green outfit that was of a vaguely militaristic cut. His eyes lit up as they landed on Professor Blow, and the two moved toward one another like a pair of magnets drawn together. Reaching a precise distance from one another they both stopped and performed the Universal Greeting in unison. That done, they each grinned and embraced the other.

"Marty!"

"Friend Eddie!"

They stopped and looked at one another for a beat, clearly old friends who hadn't seen one another in a long time. "Marty, it's great to see you again," the Professor told him. "How was your trip? Let me introduce you to some people...." He guided the small humanoid over to the rest of them, a friendly hand on his shoulder. "First, I guess, this is Ambassador Sam Witwicky...."

And to Bumblebee's surprise, Sam squared back his shoulders, stepped forward, and performed the Universal Greeting.

Watching the Autobots do the Bahweepthingamabobber was an eye-opener unto itself. Unlike the Professor and his friend the Senior Martinean Scientist Explorer Klug ("But he goes by Marty here on Earth"), who did the Greeting almost like a dance, the Autobots did it with a kind of heavy grace (ponderous, that was the word, and Sam blamed his SAT cramming for it) that more than anything showed Earth wasn't their world--they were too weighty for it, too big, and barely did more than turn in place. Still, seeing four giant sentient robots turning as one was weird and awesome in its own way. He wished he'd had a camcorder, and wondered if the base's security cameras might have caught it, and who he'd have to bribe to get a copy. If the military was even bribeable.

"Marty" turned his attention to Optimus Prime. "Greetings from people of planet Martinea," he started, "to Autobot forces of planet Cybertron. Planet Martinea hopes for many..." he paused and pulled a device out of his pocket, consulting the small black box for a second before tucking it back away, "fruitful future scientific co-endeavors."

Optimus raised the robotic equivalent of an eyebrow slightly, a soft whirring of gears. "This is our hope as well, Senior Scientist Explorer Klug--"

The small man held up a hand. "Please. Just Marty."

Optimus smiled a little. "Marty, then." A beat. "Future co-endeavors?" he inquired.

Marty grinned just a tiny bit, barely more than the quirking up of the sides of his mouth. But he looked very smug. "Martinea currently hosting Autobot scientist Wheeljack. Very fruitful research; many inventions created and refinements improved. Scientist Wheeljack has promised to come to Earth in three point two Earth months, as soon as current set of experiments finished."

Ratchet and Bumblebee had both jerked in shock at the information; Sam guessed they knew Wheeljack. Ironhide, though, hadn't moved a servo and was glaring at the spaceship that looked like a green Mini. "Prime," he interrupted, "permission to perform an interrogation."

"Ironhide...." The Autobot leader sounded long-suffering and put-upon. Sam couldn't blame him.

Ironhide, typically, ignored the implied exasperation and merely continued staring at the ship. "That," he said curtly, "is a Cybertronian."

There was low laughter from the direction of the spaceship, and something moved, gears and servos whirring and clanking like one of the Autobots transforming. Sam could hear it, but he saw absolutely nothing....

"Autobot Mirage, reporting to Earth as requested," a smooth voice said in English, and the form of a Cybertronian, blue and white and shining silver, faded into view next to the Mini.

Professor Blow just raised an eyebrow and turned to Marty. "Bamboozelurgical metal?" he asked.

"Plus nine!" Marty replied proudly. "Ultimate newest type."
