Title: 1635: The Cannon Law
Authors: Eric Flint and Andrew Dennis
Length: 420 pages

Finally I feel like this series has hit its stride. This is a good book. It follows directly on from The Galileo Affair in plot, timeline, and publishing sequence, all of which I feel help its coherency. It keeps a fairly tight focus on its main set of characters, a mostly central geography, and a strong storyline. This is the one that makes me WANT to read a sequel as opposed to "oh, well, I checked the whole series out of the library so I should read them all." I'm really really hoping that the authors are working on the direct sequel that the end hints at, though to be honest its ending can stand as a finish too.

Verdict: highly recommended!

I'm afraid they're not working on a direct sequel to this now. It's under contract, but the next book that Eric Flint is working on with Andrew Dennis is based in Britain - although I suspect that it might have the antagonist from Galileo Affair involved. The three 1632 books the Eric's workign on now are Ring of Fire Three, 1635 Torturer of Fulda (sequel to Ram Rebellion) and 1635 Grand Duke of Burgundy (sequel to Bavarian Affair).
