Rain~

It's raining. Which, to those in wetter climes, is no big deal. But I live in the Los Angeles basin which, while not quite a natural desert, is certainly not designed by nature to support the water needs of its current human population. I also suspect all the concrete and asphalt that said humans have laid down has actually lessened the rainfall over the last century by absorbing and radiating out solar heat... and heat rises, pushing the inbound rain clouds from the ocean away a bit. But in any case I can hear it on the leaves of the tree out front, which is quite pleasant.

Also quite pleasant: iaurcalien came over for dinner last night and ended up sleeping over. ^_^ Wonderful Husband and I haven't seen her for a while, so it was quite nice to. And she got to meet Sushi. ^_^

Ooh! Plus rain means I don't have to go over to the garden before work tomorrow to water, since it's now going to be too dark after work. The new tomatoes are chugging along, the San Marzano and Cream Sausage bushes already giving me a few tomatoes. I planted seeds for radishes and carrots and bok choi and a few daikons. I should see about putting in some spinach seeds as well, and maybe cilantro, since they both like cool weather. I've also found I have a couple of volunteer potato plants. I like nice surprises like that. I'm also still getting the occasional squash off the plants both at the community garden and here at home.

That's the news and the weather. Now to tackle another few of my fabric shelves for culling. I have twelve; I did two yesterday....

I've always wondered why among the big water projects for LA wasn't included a system of reservoirs to catch rain runoff. I guess back then they didn't have the concept of "grey" water.
